Stupid question but up to how moany coats of wax can I apply? And my increasing the number of coats will it make it last longer or will it make it shine better, or will it just clake in to pieces because it would be unable to fill in the pours and just slosh around on the surface?

I use gold class, thanks

This is a big debate especially when it comes to carnubas. I say apply 2 coats this will help ensure surface coverage.

When I was in high school, and I had nothing better to do on Sunday morning but wax my car and wait for my friends who didn't go to church to wake up. I usually put at least 2 coats of carnuba on my car every week. (car was a 1964 Volvo 122s) People that leaned against my car usually fell down. Car probably had 10-15 coats on it at any one time...

I use carnuba and it seems like 2 coats is beneficial.

I found Gold Class hard to work with in comparison to my usual wax, Mother's Carnuba.

Gold class has cleaners in it. Each coat you add will strip the previous coat applied, so you're not really layering.

As for layering wax; Your car can only accept a certain amount of wax. Applying extra layers will just waste product. Some people layer for looks. This is possible because the oils in the wax will enhance the gloss of your paint. But the wax itself is not layering.

helpful advice, thanks

I'll look into mothers, so I should just get was with no cleaners right?

Just straight up carnuba wax?

It depends. If you don't do any pre wax prep, then just stick with the cleaner wax. It will give your paint some much needed cleaning action. If you do do some basic prep (ex. meguiars 3 step system) then you can stick with a pure carnuba wax.

you are going to want to let the wax cure(usually overnight) in between coats. otherwise, a second layer will not be beneficial. of course unless you did a crappy job on the first coat and you are just filling in your mistakes when you go at it a second time.

How many coats with candle wax?
My mom usually puts on 2, but I think it's a waste.
