View Full Version : Anybody supercharge a 2002? WTA123 09-10-2004, 08:08 PM Im thinking of doing this, and was wonder what the performane specs. would be. Would it be better to turbo? ScottiGee 09-28-2004, 02:48 AM I'm probably the least qualified to reply here...but I'm at least good for a bump to the top.... Superchargers are better for bigger engines that don't mind the extra drag low down, or for high winding engines whose owners can wait. I am immensly partial to the turbo...or the swap...over the s/c I have never heard of a S/Ced 2002 but now that I'm subscribed to this thread I''ll sit back and see what rolls in Leif E. Bronn 09-28-2004, 10:01 AM I've seen 2, one was in Grassroots Motorsports and was built by Mongruel(sp?) Motorsports for the 2002 Challange. The other one was a guy on roadfly. There was never a SC made for the 02 so it's hard ot find one that will work. I'll see if I can find the infor on the one from GRM and post the information but that won't be till later today. WTA123 09-28-2004, 03:53 PM Yeah Ive seen the grassroots motorsport one. So you would think its better to turbo? How would u suggest that. Its a 76 2002 with weber carb :) WTA123 09-28-2004, 03:56 PM Heres one (http://www.mongrelmotorsports.homestead.com/chall.html) Leif E. Bronn 09-29-2004, 04:22 PM There aren't any out of the box turbo kits for the 02 so you'll have to make your own, several people have done this. You will need to switch to fuel injection using the e30 318 manifold. I don't know a whole lot about turboing an 02 so check out http://www.bmw2002faq.com/talkshop/forum/. Use the search for Pat Allen's posts about his turbo set up. ScottiGee 10-01-2004, 10:22 AM I wish bmw2002faq would suck it up and adopt a more modern forum format...it's really a bitch looking through all their stuff! Great info, but hard to sort out.... When you consider it's basically a couple of guys on opposite sides of the country running FAQ out of their own pockets and whatever they can make off their store, we're fortunate to have anything worth while at all. IT actually has done VERY well in providing a wealth of info to the 2002 folks. They do have a 'new' search engine that works though- Try http://www.bmw2002faq.com/talkshop/forum/messages/168561.html#168832 YMMV of course- ScottiGee 10-01-2004, 11:53 AM I know, I know, I'm an ingrate. It is a great site - filled with lots of good info. Thumbs up steve k. 10-04-2004, 07:26 PM I wish bmw2002faq would suck it up and adopt a more modern forum format...it's really a bitch looking through all their stuff! Great info, but hard to sort out.... scott, what do you mean by a "more modern forum format"? btw, we aways welcome constructive criticism. we also welcome help in making this stuff come true. steve k. Leif E. Bronn 10-04-2004, 08:41 PM Steve, He means like the format Bimmerforums uses. Something that puts New Threads and reply's to old threads up to the top, thus keeping interesting or important threads alive. I have to admit I didn't like how bimmerforums looked when I first started using it but now I think it is the best way to go. Leif ScottiGee 10-05-2004, 01:48 AM yes, that is what I meant. I did some more surfing around on FAQ and I started to 'get it' ... but it just seems like a more primitive format. I like to have threads opening in their own windows, with relative posts falling chronologically in order after the thread starter. All the indents get confusing. I appreciate you taking it as constructive criticism - if I had known people on this forum actually developed FAQ I might have been less whiny! And please don't get me wrong - FAQ is a great source of info. I printed what must've been a 10 page thread on "101 useful things about the 2002". and then "another 101 things" and then "a memoriam to the 2002" that was fascinating....too much to read on the comuter screen so I took it with me. If you have ownership on both forums have you considered migrating post data over to bimmerforums? I wonder what the FAQ folks would say about that... steve k. 10-05-2004, 02:33 AM i don't run bimmerforums, i just visit it occasionally. we started the faq on 02/02/02 as a no bells or wistles information source for the 2002. the format that you see is simple and streight forward. nested messages sometimes give the answer without the need to look deaper. the forum can even be veiwed from your cell phone :). if you do like the bimerforums format check the "view threads" link. that gives the listing of threads with the latest updated at the top. then if within the ane message you click on "view entire thread" you will see the chronological listing of the messages. I don't like that format since it is hard to see what the message the reply is for. steve k. ScottiGee 10-05-2004, 10:15 AM well you've done a great job supplying info to the masses :) Thanks for the hard work! JettaGLXdriver 10-19-2004, 12:44 AM I wonder if a small eurosport charger like the VW runs ofte would be possible. You would have to make bracket, pulley, and do some piping. I would prefer to do turbo. You wouldn't have to switch over to carb but it makes it easier to setup if you have ability to control fuel for turbo. |
