Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't posted to thims in the last couple of weeks.

Here goes.

Want your dash to shine and want it to last longet than a week? Here's the trick:

Buy Meguiars High Gloss Tire shine gel and dilute it 50/50, put the solution into a industrial spray bottle. Use the Provided applicator, and viola! One thing to make sure of is that you don't spray it directly on the dash, spray the solution onto the applicator, then wipe it into the dash.

Here's another...Kinda off kilter, but it works.

I learned this trick last year. I had to detail a 1997 Ford Econoline Van that an elderly gentleman (who smoked) had died in. After cleaning up the main stuff (gross), I bought 10 newspapers (OK, I held open the machine and took 10), and crumpled each up into a ball and filled the entire van with those balls. Leave it in the sun completely closed for a minimum of 3 days. After that, use Febreeze lightly and there you go. No stinky smells any more.

What purpose do the newspapers serve?

My guess is that it absorbs the odor. I wouldn't have believed it unless I tried it for myself. I tried it once, and I have sworn by it ever since. It really works!

wouldn't the tire shine solution attract a lot of dust? also, isn't it made with oil? seems like it would be quite greasy

Meg's Endurance has silicone in it, does it not?

Silicone = bad for your dash.

Use 1z cockpit premium or 303.

Nice tips.
Do I need to cut the tire shine with water or what?

That tire shine is pretty nasty stuff man, it's kinda colored. If you don't have a black dash that would tear your dash up, not to mention make it slick as ice for weeks. Could be just me. I like the newspaper idea however, applause. I may be getting hold of a suburban in a few years that has been smoked in untold times.

Silicone = bad for your dash. What makes you say that?

What makes you say that?
because silicone will block (even permanantly) every pore in your dash material. Your dash needs to breathe...it's like Armor-all wipes; that stuff will make your dash all nasty after a while, not to mention it will gradually fume off nasty, hard-to-get-off residue onto your windshield.

However, it Endurance doesn't have silicone, I guess it would be ok. I'd think it'd be very greasy though, even diluted...

In any event, I don't use it, just found you comments interesting, but do agree that most greasy products add to the out-gas film that collects on the interior surface of the glass; that's usually associated with vinyl dashes.

OR you COULD just buy some Vinylex cleaner, and have your dash stay shiney for 2-3 weeks :)

I sure hope you got paid enough for that van.

What if I don't want my dashboard to shine but I want to clean and preserve it without leaving a film?
