View Full Version : Seat Experts: I need your help.
Ok, I am casually looking for some newer seats. My seats are in ok condition (for being 15 years old) but I would like to upgrade. I was wondering what seats would be the most comfortable/functional for me.
I am 180lbs, 6ft tall, 32 waist.
The sport seats I have in my 325 are not what I expected. They do not hold me in when cornering aggressively. I don't feel any support. However, I REALLY like the seats (OEM Recaro's) in my Prelude. They hold me in nice and snug in the waist/mid back section. I would like to find a similar seat to this.
I am looking for only black. I don't want a showy seat either.
Anyway, what kind of seat do you recommend for a good price?? Any good local stores to test some out??
Again, I am just casually looking. I am trying to get some ideas right now.

OG has a nice selection of seats to try out. Then you can determine the dimension of the seat you need. Then shop around for the particular brand and model seat. Unfortunately, there are a lot of options out there.

Finally, you ADMIT it --- you are a ... STREET RACER!!!! :stickoutt
Why don't you buy my M3 seats Andy? They are a direct fit for the E46's?? I'll give you one of my headrest monitors as well ... *untzzzz untzzzz untzzzz*
I have side width adjustable lumbar support as well. They are not going to be showy -- but, will complement your interior. This way, you don't RICE out your BMW as well with racing seats, since I've seen the engine bay in your Honda :rolleyes .. OOH... SHINY AEM intake:stickoutt ... ;) :stickoutt
Oh ... sorry Jesse :stickoutt

James, I am looking for seats for my 240SX. I am NOT altering my 325....EVER. Besides, the cost of M3 seats would be almost as much as a swap for my 240. Turbo or M3 seats??? Hmmmmm, which do you think I prefer? :boid:
:D
essejM3 09-10-2004, 11:56 AM Oh ... sorry Jesse :stickoutt
Yeah my seats may seem a little ricey to some, but at least they aren't yellow  :D
jterp 09-10-2004, 12:58 PM These would compliment the look of the car well:

The shop at Summit Point doesn't let you sit in them. Me and Jed went once and they wouldn't let us try them out. :dunno

Just go to OG in VA. They have a decent selection and you can try them out.

Did you receive a DEFECTIVE LTW Jesse? Is that why your flag is all black?? Shouldn't your LTW flag be MULTI-COLORED??? You must have gotten the POOR engine ...

OR did you stick that flag on there like a TRUE RICER

HAHAHA
My 325 seats off NO support in the waist department. The back support is even worse. I just don't have that sense of stability.

Will these seats offer what I am looking for??

Andy, this sounds like something you can cure with a couple dozen donuts. (I mean Krispy Kreme (tm) not the tire-reducing kind.)
Scott
vjlax18 09-10-2004, 01:47 PM Torino's would be perfect for you, and OG is in Sterling, VA. Check their website for directions, mapquest/yahoo/etc are all wrong...

NoSoup4U 09-10-2004, 02:05 PM I would look at a corbeau seat andy (being serious now). I can get you a discount on those. They will be much cheaper than a sparco seat. www.corbeau.com ... I know someone that can beat the listed prices of the corbeau's.
They are great seats ... Ask Mark R. -- he has one ... Sparco's are nice but, a little bit overpriced for what you want. I think corbeau's would fit the bill nicely.
vjlax18 09-10-2004, 02:21 PM Actually the Corbeau TRS is a very nice seat. It's a copy of the Recaro SRx seats.
Preppy 09-10-2004, 02:47 PM Torino's would be perfect for you, and OG is in Sterling, VA. Check their website for directions, mapquest/yahoo/etc are all wrong...
Actually, Torino's don't exsist anymore, they're called Torino2's now ;)
and I agree, I am about 185-190 6'0 with a 34 waist and my Torino2's hug me better than my grandma (I know, I love that saying). The Evo2 and Evo3's are also quite amazing, but I'm not sure if you're trying to go fixed back or reclinable.

Mpowered02 09-10-2004, 08:29 PM Hey Andy...seats and how well they fit you are so dependent on your size. What fits one person well won't necessarily fit another. Your best bet is to actually find a place that has some you can try out and sit in them. I agree with the suggestion of going to OG Racing and sitting in the seats they have available. Note which ones fit you the best, and you can use that to find other seats (Sparco has the dimensions of all their seats available on their website). If you find a Sparco seat you like, let me know...I can get you a good deal on Sparco stuff. Anyway, if you wanna check out OG, they're a little ways off of 267 (Dulles Toll road)...way past the airport.
most of the stuff they have are fixed seats, the only reclinable one I remember was a Torino 2 that was a return by someone so I'm not sure they even have it on the floor. Call first. Brian Hair works there.
Are you looking for reclinable or fixed ? I've been looking into reclinables for the E30 M3 but want the sub belt hole in case I do put a cage in and use a 5pt harness but very few reclinable seats have'em. Just something to remember
Jeff
AndrewBall 09-10-2004, 10:02 PM my cousin has Corbeau's ion his 02' they are comfy and hold you well.

OG is in reston/dulles area. Down the streat from curries automotive.
Pete
Mpowered02 09-11-2004, 11:20 AM Yeah, they don't have a whole lot in terms of recliners in the showroom. Bill (the owner) has plans to eventually have one of every seat in the showroom so people can sit in them. That'll be nice once it happens.
Oh, and there isnt really much of a difference between the older Torinos and the newer Torino2's. Basically, they changed the reclining mechanism slightly, the reclining knobs actually say "sparco" on them now, and the stitching is a tiny bit different. Other than that, they are the same seats.
essejM3 09-11-2004, 05:06 PM Andy, there is a guy selling Corbeau A4's on the Subaru forum FYI :dunno

Thanks, Jesse. However, I need to test out some seats before I can buy. I am just looking right now. Thanks for the heads up though.
I am guessing that these seats are made in only one size. Is that correct??
dave is cool 09-13-2004, 05:28 PM Get the Sparco EVO or EVO2. The EVO3 is for fat people.
