Changed front Mintex Red Pads to Hawk HPS Pads, because of 3 reasons. My 2000 740i sport would make a loud crack sound (from driverside tire area), rattle, squeal when braking at slow speeds.
The car was looked over by 4 mechanics for the cracking sound. All said it was the brake pads (Non-OEM) because the suspension parts were fine.
But what I found was that the mintex red pads are harsh on the rotors (Balo OEM) and dont give a good brake pedal feel, compared to stock OEM pads.
So what did I do......Go back to Stock Pads.....HELL NO....Im not going to clean my rims everytime I drive the car.
I replaced the front mintex reds to hawk hps. The brake pedal feel is smooth like OEM, no rattling and no dust.
As for the loud cracking sound from the front driverside, when I replaced the brake pads I bent the Anti-rattle to make it a tighter fit. The clip was a little harder to get in place, but the sound is also gone.
Hope this helps,
