View Full Version : How to fix? - Egg scratches - (with pics)
jeebus 09-07-2004, 01:03 PM Anyone know how I can remove this? I got hit by one egg. I removed the egg yolk but here's the scratches from the impact.

BimmerDude18 09-07-2004, 01:10 PM My friends car got hit, it was kinda shitty becasue it chipped the paint. Don't know any good way of taking them out, if they are buffable, there won't be much paint left there, I'd probably just say, live with them.
potomac 09-07-2004, 05:17 PM take your fingernail and lightly scratch the surface where the scratches are...if it is still relatively smooth, it should come out with a nice orbital and some polish (reasonably abrasive).
Good luck!

I went out and bought an orbital buffer today. The smallest they had (6"). But I can't bring myself to put it on the paint right there. It scares me. (I've never used a buffer) It's hard to get the buffer on the spot where the scratches are because of the angle. Any hints?
potomac 09-07-2004, 05:35 PM which one did you get? Are you sure it's an orbital and not a rotary?
philude 09-07-2004, 06:58 PM my old car had gotten hit with eggs also and left scratches like those, what causes it to scratch like that?

The egg shell. Notice that the center is still smooth, the egg doesnt break right away. On impact, the egg shell collapses and breaks outward like a water ripple. Kind of like this -> ((((O))))
GQ_Style 09-07-2004, 07:33 PM Not fixable without repaint. Mine from the old car never buffed out. The touch up paint never stuck well since the scratches were thin.
Live with it forever, or have that section repainted.
hal9000 09-07-2004, 08:22 PM Can you feel the scratches? If you've got a decent rotary or a PC, you should be able to get those out. A cheap buffer will not do anything but apply wax. I'm guessing that FI2 or rubbing compound will get those out. The only problem is that it's right long the edge where your paint will be at it's thinnest.
Try this, get some rubbing compound and a clean soft terry towel. Rub across the grain and see if it lessens what's there.

Yes, I can feel the scratches. They are probably too deep. I'll try your suggestion.
And the buffer I got is some cheap POS...I'm taking it back.
BimmerDude18 09-08-2004, 05:27 PM As hard as it is to do, you might want to just live with it. Buffing them out will just make the paint thinner, and mean you'll need it repainted sooner. Dents in those areas are the same thing.
bmwperson 09-24-2004, 12:24 PM wouldnt touchup paint + langka do it?
Tom
tyipengr 09-24-2004, 12:52 PM I don't think I got hit quite as hard as you did from the impression it left on your but I got egg scratches of my car (dark green color) with Zymol HD Cleanse.
jeebus 09-24-2004, 03:54 PM It's getting less and less noticeable as time goes by. I Zaino'd my car last week. That probably helped.
