Hi all

I need a fast response and opinions from all of you.

I have an offered for 750il year 1988 and registered in Malaysia 1990 for sale around USD$ 11K.

The car is currently running on SUpra 7M engine 3.0 litre and single turbo. The engine has been is completely rebuilt, with brand new hoses, oil seals, belts and all.The OBC still works.

Besides that, the list below are the items he has changed.

Brand new bushes all round (original 750 stuff and not 730 stuff)
-Brand new upper arms, lower arms
-Brand new EDC equipped LAD shocks imported from the US...these are brand new BMW units that I had remanufactured in the US by people who make LAD's for trucks...this one will never leak and if it does you can easily replace the O-ring!
-Brand new wiper motor
-Brand new power window motors on rear doors
-Brand new weather strip (rubber lining) on trunk and sunroof
-Brand new Original Lenso 17inch alloys
-Brand new tyres (special size)
-Brand new Glasurit special effect paint
-Brand new Wuerth soundproofing material
-Window tint
-Brand new Air conditioning system including original BMW cooling fan
-Brand new steering coupling (750 model)

Uhm, wow.

This is just about the strangest transplant I have heard of...

Let me start by asking why would you want this car?

Also, how many HP does the Supra engine put out? What happened to the original engine? Are you aware that the E32 750s can be maintenance nightmares? $11K sound expensive, even with all the new/almost new items.

I know nothing about the Malaysian luxury car market, so I don't know what else might be available, and at a decent price.

But still, why?

Why indeed.

I mean, why not buy the twin-turbo Supra 750?

On the remote chance the previous owner was not a systems engineer in the Malaysian government, I'm guessing you have a TON of systems that are non-functional with that car...

That being said... what is the HP and torque on that engine from the factory? Probably uses Supra ECU, injection rail, etc, does it use a SUPRA tranny, etc?

At first glance, it sounds like it could be a Bimmer that is extremely reliable, but having driven Hybrid cars that functioned really well (Chevy V-Tec Landcruisers and even 350 big block E-types), I've also driven ones that were monstrosities (Opel GTs with 454 engines) and the one thing you can count on is that no one is ever going to want to work on it.

Change your mechanic and immediately it will require 4 hours of billing time simply for diagnosis... the buddy I knew with the E-Type ended up mapping the engne with a marker on the underside of the aluminum hood heat reflector. Said it saved him from getting fifty calls asking things like... "this looks like a Lucas pump, but its in the wrong place... so I'm assuming its the alternator"

Is this a common conversion there? I have never heard of that engine in that vehicle... for that matter, I have never heard of a non-bmw engine being in an E32 or E38.

Good luck.

Hi all.

The min reason why the bigger cc engine car not popular here is because of the road tax....for 750iL it will cost you around USD$3K per year for road tax.....it is killing.....and that is also the reason why the big cc car (luxury) will not have a good resale value here in Malaysia.

The ecu is a combination between the Supra ecu and the original BMW ecu.(that's why the OBC can work)....according to him supra has better integration with BMW ecu...

I'm not sure about the gearbox...the output of the engine should be around 179kW and the torque is around 344Nm....it is equivalent with the standard 750iL original engine....

By looking at the list...he has changed a lot of things......can you highlight to me what will be the other potential problem...such as drive shaft, axle, and etc.....

Oohh...still confuse now..should I or should not I.......

Fyi, the 2nd hand value fo that car is around RM 34K to RM38K....(around USD$9-10K)...he is selling it coz leaving back to USA now.....

Cheers

The owners of the Thai restaurant I work for have a home and Mercedes in Thailand as well. Their 2003 S-class has a 4 banger diesel in it, from the factory! Gas costs a fortune over there so you rarely see a large motor, even in a luxury car. There's too much traffic to drive fast anyways.

Oh, and the U.S. guys here are not likely to know much about this setup. I think you're on your own.

Sounds like it though...

Perhaps can just ignore the engine....what about other parts of the car?

Esp base on the list given...

Thanks and regards

Well, based on the list of maintenance performed, I suppose this is a decent deal. The whole transplant thing kind of creeps me out, though.

How much more is a 728i, for example?

Wow, I won't even ask how much a 740 or 750 would be...

So, for 1/4 the price of the 1997 728i you listed you could get this E38 hybrid...what the hell, I guess. If it drives OK and can be worked on, maybe it's the one.

Are other BMWs equally expensive? (like the 728i is)

740 and 750 will be cheaper because of the road-tax..

And the unit that I'm looking now is E32 not E38....

:)

Cheers

Other BMW...325SMG cost around RM280K.....normal 318i (2.0litre) valvtronic start price is around RM230K...

the latest 530iD now si about RM430K....

Expensive isn't?
