View Full Version : Ahh...I love Lexol leather Cleaning Products
So today I decided that I should give my baby some interior care...Sure the exterior is what gets noticed by others, but it's nice to be in a clean, like new interior while crusing. I think Lexol has definitely saved my seats from the nasty cracking you usually see on most E36s...I religiously apply conditioner about 4 to 5 times per year, which keeps the leather nice and soft. I HIGHLY suggest this to everyone!
So, I wiped down the front seats with a light soap/hot water mixture at first to clean off any dirt, then followed up with Lexol cleaner and then Lexo conditioner. The rears hardly get any passengers so I didn't feel like I had to really clean them up as much. So they got the Lexol products, but no need for the wipe down.
What I love most about the Lexol is that it doesn't leave the leather all greasy like cheaper products. It keeps the leather soft and supple, just like the day I drove it off the lot!
Here's some pics...I tried minimizing the glare from the interior lights...the seats aren't shiny, just the lighting effect. Oh yea, don't mind the night and day pics, the fronts took much longer as I had to wipe them down with the soap mixture. The rears were done during daylight and the fronts were completed at around dusk:
Not bad for a car that was built in the BMW factory almost eight years ago, huh?

shipd 09-04-2004, 09:25 PM Your seats look nice. Mine was badly neglected by the previous owner and very dirty/hard with lots of crack, I just picked up some Lexol from Pepboys hoping they can do some magic on my seats, surprisingly they are only $5 each for the 500ml cleaner and conditioner. What soap do you normally use for the wipe before the Lexol cleaner?
BMWin14RSM 09-04-2004, 10:03 PM Great job on keeping the seats looking good. I have found the interior does more for the re-sale of a car than the exterior.
I also use Lexol, and a mild soap on my leather. I notice the same thing on my leather.
I like to use a very mild soap...usually something like Dove liquid soap. I know it sounds weird, but the more gentle the soap the better. And anyways, you're gonna dilute it so it's not gonna be full strength. You basically want it to remove the layer of dirt if there is any before you use the Lexol stuff. If not, you may actually rub in the dirt in stead of removing it.
When you wipe the seats down with the mild soap liquid, you'll see your rag turn a bit brown/black...there's always some dirt.
Mantic 09-05-2004, 11:57 AM The seats look pretty good, maybe a little too shinney? But i just want to let you know some people have reported Lexol leaving their M nappa leather seats sticky after repeated use. When I was looking for leather care for my car I did a little research and narrowed it down to Spinneybeck or Connolly. After reading Spinneybeck had reformulated their leather care into an "all in one" cleaner/conditioner I decided to go with Connolly. I've only used it once so far but plan on cleaning and conditioning again very soon. It leaves a nice matt shean to your leather it not shinny at all. Just wanted to let you know what i've read.
Estoril ART 09-05-2004, 04:24 PM JuBu lists is car as a 328i so I don't think he's going to have a problem with the Lexol stuff. I'm using the Spinneybeck "all in one" stuff and it works pretty well. It's amazing how much it cleans up the leather and it leaves a nice smell as well. I'm curious about the Connolloy stuff though. Mantic, does Connolloy have a cleaner? I thought they just had the hide food which is the conditioner.
Cobra 427 09-05-2004, 05:14 PM I've been very pleased with using Zaino's Leather cleaner and Leather conditioner.

Yes you can buy the Connolly kit at autogeek, it's a bottle of cleaner and cannister of hide food.

I'm not sure that's relevant since my '98 323is was shipped with nappa leather. :dunno
the car looks beautiful inside. makes me want to do the same with mine now.

Agreed.
hc1001 09-08-2004, 11:04 PM i used lexol leather wipes on my 98 m3 seats and it was good. u have to wipe it off with a clean rag after it drys.
Steve530 09-08-2004, 11:15 PM I just tried leatherique last month. The leather restorer works well on worn leather and the pristine clean is great for regular maintenance.
Hide food smells like, well, you know. But it seems to work well on heard leather.
Lexol is ok.
Everything else I've tried is in a different class.
Balthazarr 09-13-2004, 03:32 AM My vaders must have the cowhide or something bc they are still harsh feeling.
Not as hard as the rears though.
I've used the Leatherique regimen 3 times since buying RO and conditioner a little over a year ago.
Think I will try some Connolly or Lexol for a while.
Could be I'm expecting too much.
