Hey, i am considering a move from CT to Boston. I don't know the city well and was wondering what are somee affordable, safe, clean neighborhoods to live in. Looking to live in the actual city. Not nessecarily down town boston, but near the convention center or w/e. I was down near the convention center and really liked it. So what are you recomendations. I am thinking of moving up there are just take some classes at a community college for a bit. Any info would be great.

And most important what is the BMW scene?

Hi
Here's my $.02 on my 6 years in Boston.
First of all, figure out what you can pay for rent. The city is really expensive to live in. I've been on Mission Hill (near all the hospitals, Wentworth, Mass. Art) my whole time here. When I first moved here I shared a 2 bedroom for $1300/month now I share a 3 bedroom for $2100/month. These are fairly cheap places. Not sure which convention center you're referring to (Hynes or South Boston) but the Hynes area is going to be pricey. My gf has a studio not too far from there and it's $1300/month. South Boston on the other hand isn't too bad.
Areas:
Mission Hill - Lots of college kids. Lots of parties. Both my BMW's were vandalized. Not recommended.
Upper Allston - Same as above
Brighton - Same as above
Lower Allston - Many families. Good area. Sorta pricey.
Back Bay - Tourists. Expensive. Apartments tend to be very nice.
Fenway - Same as Mission Hill (some parts are nice but they're pricey)
Brookline - Fairly affordable and nice. Families.
South End - Very gay. Apartments tend to be pretty nice but it's expensive.
Jamaica Plain - Lesbians. Cheap.
South Boston - Many parts of southie are nice. Lots of families. Public transportation out there sucks though.
North End - Italian neighborhood. Expensive but nice.
East Boston - Don't even consider.
I'd also reccomend Cambridge. Completely different vibe from Boston and some good deals on apartments.

Boston is a fun city to live in. Some great bars, good music scene and lots of things constantly going on. Tons of college kids. Over 1/3 of the city is students. I never really went to any meets or anything when I had my car(s) but I see lots of modded BMW's around. There's actially a nice 4dr M3 down the street from me.

Anyway, my aol sn is robncircus. Feel free to ask any questions or anything.
Good luck
Rob
