So, on Sunday there was a small meet in the San Fernando Valley at Carney's. Who cares about all the other cars, Atilla showed up in his e21. He was telling me last week on the phone about how he and his dad had FINALLY gotten the fuel issue solved (for now) on the car. They did some tinkering and got a trick home grown system installed to get more fuel in under high boost levels, using mainly e21 parts.
Getting to the point, he took me for a ride. You can ask ANYONE that was at the meet when we got back to the parking lot about how long it took me to form whole sentinces again. The thing is amazing!!!! Pure sex doesn't even begin to describe it. I'm not really sure WHAT can. I've been in fast cars before, from modded e36 M3's to insane F-bodies. But this was an e21 that can spin the tires going into 2nd gear like none other I've ever seen. It isn't SUPPOSE to do things like that! It is faster than my M3 was, no question about it. Jonas' 323i has nothing on it. I have driven a LTW e36 M3, this e21 is quicker. Right now I think he could be as quick as the S/C e36 M3's, maybe getting close to e46 M3 range. This is pretty good for a car that isn't worth NEARLY what they are. Granted a lot of it has to do with the lack of weight, but that is where power-to-weight ratios come into play, right? You don't need 400+hp if you don't weigh over 2500lbs.
Oh, and just as a side note, it was pretty cool to see all the other people there actually interested in the car. The e36 people that were there didn't really seem to know what it was, other than an old looking e30. I'm not even sure if they realized it was a 4 banger. But oh well.....their loss!
So, I've been thinking over what I'm doing with my car since then, but still realizing that I want to try and get my stroker built first, THEN worry about boost. Obviously high compression stroker and eventual boost don't mix, but I'll figure that out later. I've got a S14 that needs to be rebuilt, so most of my money will be going into that 'fund'. By the time I get to adding boost to the M10 I should hopefully have the means to rip apart my own engines in my garage, making a piston swap (for lower compression ones) not that big of a deal. But we'll see. Who knows....if I can get a deal on a manifold and turbo I might try and build my stroker FOR boost and get it all done at the same time....
