View Full Version : Ron Stygar Service
John (PA) 03-06-2002, 11:44 PM Not only did he help me figure out what parts I need (assembling parts from different years and models), sold me extra parts I needed at 25% off from the dealer, and assembled the most nicely packaged package I have ever received, shipped same day he got payment, and get this.. He included gloves to stay clean while doing the work.
It was a pleasure dealing with Ron, I have to agree!
I had a similar experience. He kept in touch and made sure I knew exactly what I should be buying! :)
Stylin 03-11-2002, 02:06 AM I was dissapointed with the shifter I received from Ron. I didnt receive any gloves, extra clips, washers, instructions and whatever else ur surpose to get. All I got was the shifter, selector rod, and connector.
MMTuning 03-11-2002, 09:10 PM I have been disappointed as well with Ron's products. I have gotten the shifter and clutch stop. The clutch stop is functional, but not perfect. The shifter is a joke. The aluminum top came apart from the rubber shock absorber after 2 months. I have discarded it and all that money has been wasted. No offense, but more RD needs to go into the shifter. It sounds like this treatment is a "one-off". My .02
Ryan325i 03-14-2002, 09:40 AM I ordered the shifter from Ron for my 325i. He send me a BMW Z3 shifter that he had bent. I also got all the circlips, washers and the selector rod bent. He included gloves and some lubricating gel with Q tips. The instructions weren't perfectly clear (he emailed them) but they worked. I also called him two times and he was extremely helpful on the phone.
Thats my experience.
C///M3 03-14-2002, 04:13 PM I was happy with his product. Everything mentioned above was included in my package. The shifter has been on my car for a long time now (definately over a year) and everything is working fine. The only thing lacking was instructions. I ended up using the instructions from UUC's site. But you cant beat his product for the $$.
I went to his place for the install, and he was great. He himself prefers that, so that he can adjust the shifter to your desired specs. He goes throught the entire process, outlining and explaining each step of the way.
He even makes you do the install! So that you understand the process.
He really IS great, and I feel bad that you received a bad shifter.
You should have called him, because he wouldn't tolerate that either.
Keep in mind, that he is one man(not a kid either) doing most of this stuff. Ron is an older fellow(not to be insulting), and is very carefull with his work. But not everyone is perfect.
My hat's off to Ron.
If you met him, you would change your mind entirely.
He was like a grandfather to us when we were there!
I wish him the best.
Greg
Vitolo 04-17-2002, 01:04 PM Anyone who has been in the mans garage can attest to what kind of fellow his is.
If you werent happy with what you got, TELL HIM. With anything, give the other party a chance to make amends before you speak out. Im positive he would rectify things
Keith_M3-4 04-22-2002, 01:34 PM Support and parts were fanastic. No false promises.. just ask the right questions...
///MD 05-08-2002, 08:49 AM Great service as mentioned above. no problems with the product. He also gave great advice on what should and shouldn't be changed. He will not recommend frivolous mods that waste money. If you ask the right questions, you get the right answers. My kit was complete including gloves! A bit of mechanical aptitude definitely helps if you are a DIY type person. I highly recommend his stuff. I don't think he is in it for the money, he just loves BMWs and helping others with the same passion.

greg and Jonathon,
My sentiments exactly..He is a one of a kind...and knows his stuff well. He requires that you attempt the install when you go up there, but if you take too long, indicating youre having problems, he'll step right in. Like I had a problem with that damn clip, so he got right under there and snapped it in....Also, he took the measurements right in my car of where I wanted the shifter head to be. Then, using his custom made bending jig, he put just the right angle on it for perfect placement...I think if youre withing driving distance, it pays in spades to do it up there....I did mine about 30K miles ago, and its as solid as you can imagine...And no slop has even thought about creeping into it.
