View Full Version : Los Angeles Afternoon Lunch, or Late Night Dinner

Hey guys, it's been a while since we've had a good meet, well around in the LA area anyways.

Everyone is welcome.

Who would be interested coming to Los Angeles for a late night dinner or an early afternoon lunch at Mel's Diner on Sunset Blvd?

The food is great along with the service, not forgetting the free valet service either. The parking lot is within eye-sight, and there is self parking available. The food isn't that expensive either. It's about a bit higher than Denny's.

If we schedule the meet late night / early afternoon lunch, there will be plenty of parking for everyone. I have to check the area during the day to be sure of parking, but I feel there should be enough.

If people are up for it, we can also drive to the beach... So pretty much whatever interests you after.

Please, no immaturity, this is a busy area, both during the day and at night. A lot of meets have been ruined by this plain fact of people lacking self control.

There is no date set yet, until there are enough people interested, then I will set a final date. It would be nice to have in about a week's time or so, or whenever there are enough people are interested.

San Diego guys and gals, it'd be nice to have you as well!

Let me know your thoughts and opinions.

The food is great there but the parking and traffic sucks hell. Cops around there are kinda stuck up and if you guys go on a late night cruise. No cruise zone.. Just becareful if you guys do decide to go that way.

The cruising laws apply if you pass by certain 'check-points' more than 2 times in a certain number of hours (2-3 usually). This would NOT be an issue, unless people decide to cruise Sunset that way. If we go on a 'cruise' or drive out ot the beach it should be an issue for anyone unless they got lost and turned around a few times trying to get to Mel's.

The cruising laws are easy to get around if you know what they are and what you are doing. But I haven't cruised Sunset since a bunch of us from DTM did it like 3 years ago.

I didn't mean to sound like a cruise down Sunset, rather just driving on it to the beach. Besides, cruising down a crowded street with lots of traffic isn't any fun :)

If Mel's doesn't work out, Carney's on Ventura would be a good spot as well as Doug suggested.

...or maybe farther north where the traffic is much lighter??

Like Malibu or something?

Either way, I'll probably be there.

TECHNICALLY.....Malibu is west of the Sunset strip, and south of the section of the Valley where Carney's is. But going from the Westside to the Coast, up through Malibu would be nice. Sorta like the GCC route, just without the crazy driving! I would vote for driving ALL the way up PCH past County Line going into Ventura county, but that's me. It is great during the day for scenery, and the road is nicely twisty without being too much of a hazard. But I'm not sure if people are up for that long of a 'cruise'.

Maybe I'll have to plan my own another day if people aren't up to it this time......

Plus we'll end up in ///M_Nicht's neck of the woods!

I know this is short notice, but can we make it this weekend? I will be up in LA (I think) and will NOT be able to do anything next weekend (g/f's B-day). If not this weekend then I hope it is after next weekend!!!

Kim your car is ALWAYS breaking whenever you take it north of Dana Point. I think it is a sign.

So, it's TECHNICALLY Wed morning now Jonathan. ;) Do you have a date yet?

Valet service? You really let others drive your car? Haven't you seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off? :biglaughb

Well... I've been lagging.. ;)

Parents are checking out cars, so of course I gotta tag along, which leaves Sunday...

Would Sunday afternoon be good? It's the 22nd of this month, around 12 noon'ish at Carney's in Studio City.

I'll have a map up tomorrow afternoon.

What do you guys say?

Clumpymold - I saw the valet guy drive it 2 feet to the parking spot :D Which is directly in front of where we were sitting :)

Jonathan, I'm coming up Sat (morning?), call me once you get done with your parent's car hunting...

I'm sure someone will post an address but its in Studio City, on Ventura (SP?) but it looks like a rail car off a train and has some good chile dogs, burgers, fries....very good stuff. open till I forget but me and a buddy usually hit that place or jerry's deli after a late night lol.

Edit: I just asked him and the time is gunna be 12 noon. Meaning...12 o'clock in the P.M. :)

Noonish is an official SoCal time, didn't you all KNOW that? Come on!!!!! It comes somwhere after 11am and a bit shy of 1pm. :stickoutt

So, are we doing an official list? I sorta thought this was just a come, hang out, eat and chat type thing? Lists now are mainly for people to see who else is coming and then decide if THEY want to come. Whatever. They used to be so that we wouldn't leave before someone got there. But if you MUST have a list....
