This happened today, just a few hours before the posting of this kill story. At around 6:00 I was hurrying down 400 Southbound towards midtown. I am all the way in the right lane, unusually minding the posted limit, when I see in the rear-view, two silver sedans approaching at high speeds in the far left lane. The leading car was quickly identified as the new Acura TL, nicely equipped but stock nonetheless. The follow-up car was non-identifyable, as it appeared to have a chain tied to its front bumper and attached to the TL, as if it were in tow. Any small measure of deceleration from the TL, and the car behind would be committing an act of vehicular sodomy. Being on the phone at the time, I quickly ended the conversation, and slotted the shifter into 3rd gear, bringing the RPMs up to a roaring 4.5K. Since I was cruising at the posted limit, the transmission was able and willing for such a low gear. I then brought the cilynders to life with a quick mash of the accelerator, with the car responding instantly as if the drive-by-wire operation of the throttle body was replaced by laser current. The 540 lunged forward, and I quickly maintained position in the far left lane, and it became known to me that the car in tow was the new Audi S4 BiTurbo. I gained on the S4 in a matter of seconds, shifted to 4th, and fixed the needle on 100. I could tell that the S4 was simply toying with the TL, for the flickering of brake lights and swaying from left to right only indicated the intent to taunt. But now it was my turn.

The TL soon grew tired of being the hold-up, and slowly blended into the neighboring lane. Now, just as I had expected, the S4 had taken the bait, and the twin-turbo engine began to sing. Instantaneously, I met the floor with the acclerator, and began to get even CLOSER to the rear of the S4. Rounding 110, I switch lanes to avoid violating the cute little car, and begin walking the S4 to the left, surely begging the driver to check and see if he was in the right gear. I shut it down at 135, making sure the S4 knew the result. Granted, it was hot outside, and perhaps his intercooler wasn't performing as well, however, it's nice to know that we N/A beasts don't have to worry about such a thing. Nevertheless, he eventually caught up with me down the road, and a quick thumbs-up was given, placing him in the category of the cool. What a thrill.

Nice kill. I've seen/heard your car on Alpharetta Hwy. What have you done to it? By the way, if I'm not mistaken the new S4's are 4.2L V8's no turbo's, approx 340 bhp.. Decent car though. No slouch.. The older Audi's wer 2.7 L twin turbo's.

might have been a 2002 audi S4 biturbo, the current S4 is an N/A V8

cute little car

:mad :mad :mad :mad :mad My ex said that, too. Damnit :(

Well, hmm. Not sure where to start.

The new S4s have 4.2L 340hp/302tq NA V8. My S4, stock, is a 2.7L V6 biturbo 250hp/258tq, with that peak torque over a very fat rev range (which is why they are quick while being porkers). 5.7ish 0-60 13.8-14.2s 1/4 mile.

That being said, if you raced a B5 (biturbo) S4, I'm not surprised at the outcome at all. 540s, not to mention Dinan tuned 540s, are highway monsters. If you raced a B6 (V8) S4 then I'm surprised, but I have no idea what kind of numbers you're putting down.

Either way :buttrock E39 540/M5s are in my top 10 favs.

But know thine enemy...and don't call him cute. :rolleyes

nope, i'm pretty sure it was the newer ones (8 cylinder). Kevin's car is amazingly fast, it keeps right up with my car and I have a stickley built motor and tuning. He's all NA too. Why is that hard to believe? Kevin's car has a 4.4L V8 and he's making more torque than the audi v8...

according to car and driver the new S4 does 0-60 in 5 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.6, Kevin's car could definitly beat one.

I beat a B5 S4 by a length from a 10mph roll numerous times in my Dad's car. His M3 has Intake, Exhaust, Euro HFM, chip and injectors. Surely, Kevin could compete with the new S4. The S4 guy probably had ringing ears for the next few days from the Eisenmann.

Is this the same 540 that posted vids of its mind bogglingly loud exhaust?

Hey guys. Sorry I kind of abandoned this thread for a day...I have been really busy. Anyways, I did some research, and come to find out, the S4 that I raced yesterday was the latest edition from Audi; the one with the V8. I compared what I saw yesterday to Audi's website, and sure enough, it was the new bodystyle S4. I was under the impression that the new S4 carried the same powerplant as the prior years; force-fed with twin turbos. I never knew they went a N/A V8 until now.

Don't get me wrong; I didn't murder this car yesterday. It kept up with me for a small stretch, with me gradually inching away; but then again, visually this car looked stock to me. And be reminded, I have a heavily modded 540i/6, so who knows what would happen if the S4 went the same route with mods. I have heard from a few sources that the S4 biturbo predecessor can easily achieve a 50+hp gain with simple software. Who knows what this new V8 is capable of.

Anyhoo, it was a fun run nonetheless. And for some of your responses....

Zack G. - Haha. The guy driving the TL looked pretty square. Seemed he was a bit pissed off about a car cruising at 100 right on his ass.

Ali - 1.21 Jiggawats of power to be exact.

chisau - You've seen me on Alpharetta Hwy? Flash them beams next time! I have a list of mods...here's a total list of cosmetic/performance upgrades to the FAST5:

Racing Dynamics RD2 19” road wheels
Dinan carbon-fiber intake
Dinan software
Dinan throttle body
Eisenmann quad-tip exhaust (III Race Level)
M5 front bumper
M5 rear bumper
M5 rear diffuser
Hella angel eyes front headlamps
Hella rear celis LED taillamps
Hella smoked sidemarkers
M5 smoked kidney grills
Window tinting
4.4i emblems
Removal of resonator & cats
13 lbs. lightweight flywheel
M5 door sills
M5 gauge cluster
M5 titanium interior trim
M5 illuminating shift knob
BMW TV tuner on nav. (16x9 widescreen upgrade)
DVD player
Antenna booster
BMW rubber floor mats

Continuing with responses:

s54gasm - 100% sure it was the new V8.

VandyS4 - :D Anything smaller than my big-ass 4-door family sedan is cute. Haha. J/K. I have tremendous respect for the S4, both F/I and N/A. They are some serious sports cars. Don't get me wrong, I would drive one in a heartbeat. I just have trouble fitting into small cars, being 6'4".

Serious - It was the new V8. I'd put my car on it. Wait. I already did. :D

Ali - Ali speaks the truth. Here's a guy who quite surely has the fastest N/A M3 in North America. I struggle to keep up, but then again, I have had my moments. (When he decides to let off the gas) His car has whipped EVOs, E46 M3s (video is on this site), STIs and the like; I have beared witness. And my hefty sedan coming close to his car's performance is A-OK with me.

adeelpowers - Anytime is a good time. You are more than welcome. :D

dave is cool - (see above)

bmwz3nate - Please specify....

slickav - LOL. 747 engines. Hahaha. Mods posted above. Thank you sir. :D

Oldskoolbeat - Thank you for the kind words.

slcook54 - LOL. I've started to hang ear-plugs from my mirror. :D

VandyS4 - Yessir. Tis me. :D Just for kicks, I'll post the vids again.

The V8 isn't as easily modified b/c it's NA. A full exhaust system, intake, and chip net about 40-50hp IIRC. A chip in a car like mine is 60hp/80-100tq, depending on the chip.

So, uh, wanna trade cars?

the turbo is to blame, its always easier to raise power on a turbo car (by increasing the boost), but its dangerous too

Yep. Chipped B5 S4s have turbos fail much more than usual. Stock boost is around 10psi, chipped is closer to 20psi.
