Hey guys this is my first post here. Just wanna say that I 'am glad that I found this forum. I just bought my first BMW(use to be a stangman...foxbody) and I am so impressed with my Bimmer. I have a 1989 750 il, white with the gray leather interior and it has 115k. I don't know much about the BMW's let alone this v12(i didn't even know it existed :( )...I love it though. Can you guys tell me more about my car? Why did they discontinue the 5.0 V12? Reliability of this model? Well thank you in advance.

Mojo,
Glad to have you here. Not too much activity on the 7 series board. Congrats on your purchase of the 750. It's one helluva a car. Very reliable, but a little costly for parts and maintenance. Whatever you need to know, just ask. As for the 5.0 V12 being discontinued, it really wasn't. It just has a larger displacement and is now called the 5.4 V12. That is still the engine powering the current 750's.

wasup!

and welcome to the board.......

first piece of advice is get a good manual for the car, like a bently manual (you can usually find it on Amazon.com)

that way if something breaks/goes wrong you can look it up and see what has to be done, then decide if you can do it yourself or take it to the dealer, and when you do take it to the dealer you'll be going with some knowledge of whats wrong so they wont dick you around.

BTW, the 750IL is a sweet ride....
it would be interesting to see if there are mods available for it......

Hey thanks guys! It's great to be here! I am very happy with my car so far. I here you on those part prices though, a stock muffler for my car is almost $1000 I think. I hope to have pics up as soon as I have some time. How much would a chip affect the car? Horsepower? Noticable? Again thank you.

A chip is noticeable. Stock you have 296 horses. A Dinan chip will give you an additional 30 hp@4500 rpm. Since I can only speak from experience, I don't know how the Jim C chip runs. However, I have heard that it gives better low and mid-range that Dinan.
Chipping is a relatively easy mod, but you do have to change 2 chips for the ECU as opposed to everyone's one chip. You can also opt for the tranny chip. I didn't do this, but have heard that it makes shifts much crisper, much like putting a shift kit in your auto tranny.
