This is a feeler...

I am thinking about letting Greta go this winter. She has been a great mate. She has been my daily driver and weekend auto-xer (never tracked). She is very quick and can win in the SCCA regional SM class. I am the 4th owner and have 95% of records since birth. She has never been hit. The car is currently in SCCA Street Mod trim with no radio, rear seats, trunk liners etc. (2500lbs). I have all the orignial equipment to return to a full stock appearing car. The car easily passes smog, and can prove so. The car has been given the best of love and only redline lubricants. She is silvermetallic with black interior. This car has been very reliable and has never let me down.

I am selling to change auto classes and do not have room for more than two cars.

2002 SCCA SFR - Sacramento STX Champion
2003 SCCA SFR - Sacramento SM Champion
2004 SCCA SFR - Sacramento SM Champion (points lead should hold)

When I posted a question about market value here "a feeler" a moderator told me that I wasn't allowed to and towed my thread to the classifieds section where if drowned in a sea of E46 hairdressers' cars and fell to page three, completely unseen by the end of the day. I'm still pissed about that. That's what I think.

Your car is probably worth 19 but those in the market pay 19 for an unmolested car, not one with a carbon hood and mods, so while I like it and I think it's priced reasonably I think you'll only get 14 for it.

I've seen this car in person and have seen it run. $14k is a bit insulting if you ask me as the car needs absolutely nothing and has a 2.5L built by a respected shop. Given that the modifications are not the standard spring-shock-chip-intake regimen, but genuinely thought out and performance enhancing, this car should snag nearer to what he is asking than $14k. I paid $14.5k for mine 4 years ago and it was a 2.3L and needed minimal work.

Personally, I'd be willing to pay up to $18k for it.

Edit: Russ, have you posted this on s14.net?

I have no problem with having it sit here, it isn't like there is that much traffic through the threads anyways.

Russ, I would suggest that you try asking on s14.net also to solicit some more responses.

Try also www.rallycarsforsale.net

There are often very expensive and rare homologation cars for sale there from several countries.

I am truly in crisis over the issue of selling the car. I am leaning a bit towards keeping the car and return it to more of stock status to make it an easier daily driver, and retiring it from Auto-x. I do love the car, but the cost of street mod is too expense and the it not really the car for the class. I would like to take a shot at a National championship some time in another class with another car. My wife is not too excited about a third car. :(

I hear you, Russ, you could probably find an E36 M3 cheaper than you're selling this car for and turn that into an SM machine.

Maybe some of the guys on the SIG are looking for a DM project?

Sounds like a nice car!

$19 is totally in the ball park!

It kills me when most tell you...
" I can get a E36 for that much" They just don't understand!

a 2.5l built well, is worth more then a 2.3.

You might be better off putting the stock hood and AFM back on, these things can scare off buyers.

Good luck, you KNOW you will miss it! Don't worry about the tire kickers, and their "knowledge" of what a good E30 M3 is worth, there just pissed that a 13+ yo car is worth more then theirs!

Good advice about the AFM and Hood. The SS is a nice unit, but probably beyond what most people want to deal with. Nice thing about the hood and SS they will sell.
