hey guys I'm new to the forum. i suppose i missed a gear somewhere and over reved my 2001 330ci and it apparently bent 3 exhaust valves. bmw just called and said that they will not cover it but my bumper to bumper is still intact. they want to charge 880 just to pull the head off and look at it! any advice or thoughts? thanks a lot guys. :)

Unfortunatly The Bmw Dealer Knows What Happened And When It Happened. When They Hook Up The Car To The Gt1 Or Modic It Will Tell How Fast The Car Was Going, What Time It Was, What The Engine Temp Was , And Most Importantly What Rpm It Reved To Above The Red Line. I Beleive You Are S.o.l. . You Can Not Over Rev The Engine Going Up Through The Gears But You Can When Down Shifting. The Head Will Most Likely Get Sent Out To A Machine Shop For Repair And A New Head Gasket Installed About $2000.00 ?? Sorry To Hear The Bad News ...
Besides the fact that valves don't just bend on their own.

user error isn't covered under warranty - that's why you've got insurance....which probably won't cover it either.
good luck,

Part pro likes to capitalize all of his first letters in each word
caps in front of each word makes it really annoying to read.

did you drive through a deep puddle? that would mess it up

if by driving through the puddle, you mean ingesting water, wouldnt that blow the pistons or seals first, not bend the valves? I believe they can use those mini-cameras to view the inside of the engine w/o pulling the head, I'm guessing thats how they know you bent the three valves.
Not a bad idea to keep some money on the side in case of "oh shit."

You can just take off the valve cover to see which valves don't move anymore to tell which are bent. Bending valves usually screws pistons too since thats not part of their job description, but not always. There are cool little cameras to look into engines but they arent cheap either and since it was on multiple cylinders, might as well pop the head off.
Gonna be a costly oops I'm affraid.
And as was pointed out, they KNOW what happened to the engine to cause it to fail. Even if you can get a dealer to cover it, when they send it to BMW (they send all such warranty jobs back to them) the guys at their tech bench won't cover it to the dealer. That tends to make them unhappy.

All they have to do is a compression check, if there are bent valves those cylinders will have little to no compression. Overrevs bend valves typically, water bends/breaks connecting rods.
