Does any one know if the cams from a 4 cylinder M3 engine would swap into an M42 and if it would be beneficial at all? I figure while I'm under the cam cover and renting a tool, I might be interested in an upgrade. Let me know what you think, and if anyone has stock M3 cams for sale, I might be interested.

I don't think it would work. I have no idea, but it doesn't seem like it would work. The cams are made with high precision, and I think if you put S-14 cams in a M-42, I think the timing would be messed up.
Let me know the results if you find out.

No, they will not fit. You would need Schrick or other aftermarket cams, as there were no "performace" versions of the M42. M44 cams are different. The S14 and M42 heads both have the cams over the valves, but the M44 uses rockers and hydraulic lifters.

The S14 engine is also physicaly a little bigger. The cams will not fit.

Well, that idea got shot down fast. What was the dude at Knauz thinking?

Yeah, the definately will not fit in an M44, they have a totally different head design.
And even if they would fit in the pre-96 M42 motor, it wouldn't matter because the profiles are almost identical! The S14 and M42 both have 248/248 duirations, with similar lift..

Ok, bad idea. The Knauz tech must have thought I had an e36 325 or something.
