DRIVE DETAILS:
Saturday, August 21st, with a rain date of Sunday, August 22nd

It starts at 10am (arrive by 9:45 with a full tank of gas) at the
Winterthur Museum parking lot (6 miles n.w. off I-95 exit 7 on SR52
in Wilmington, DE) and heads west past Northern Delaware estates and
Southeastern Pennsylvania mushroom farms, then turns south for lunch
at Elk Neck State Park (pack a picnic basket or stop at Troll of
Scandanavia, 302-429-6288, before the drive) and a swim in
Chesapeake Bay (at least one person from each car must get in up to
their knees). There are picnic tables and first class indoor
plumbing with showers at the park.

After lunch the drive continues
east with a stop in historic Chesapeake City for exploring and ice
cream cones, passes by Maryland horse farms, reenters Delaware and
heads south on SR9 along the Delaware Bay ending at the Boondocks
Restaurant just east of Smyrna for our crab feast.

Cross almost every covered bridge in Delaware (two), three in
Pennsylvania and drive by a sixth in Maryland. Other attractions
include a beautiful sand beach on the Chesapeake for lunch, some
terrific country roads, farms, streams, bridges, marshlands, horses,
cows and waterfowl. We hope anyone within reasonable driving
distance and able to commandeer a BMW Z Series automobile will
join us. Mark your calendars now.
