I've heard a few methods, but what is the best way to remove an old sticker off the body of the car?

any suggestions are appreciated...

Check with your local bookseller, they're frequently taking ratty stickers off of things.

I think they use cigarette lighter fluid, but I'm not sure what that'll do to underlying car surfaces like rubber and the clear-coat (if you've got one on paint).

Sometimes leaving a soaking wet sponge on the sticker will destroy the paper part and make the glue easy to remove *gently* with a fingernail.

Good luck.

Yeah, whatever you do don't scrape with anything including your fingernail.

Try over soaking it with warm water first, if that doesn't loosen it up, get some Orange oil. They make some cleaners with Orange Oil (I think Goo-be-gone is one?), but anything with Orange Oil should do the trick.

Orange Oil should loosen anything up (dries out your skin big time too, so maybe wear rubber gloves).

The key is patience when doing it. A small piece may come or a big strip, just pull gently and slowly and be prepared for it to take a while.

After using Orange Oil, wash the area with soap and water, then use a polish or cleaner to clean the paint, then a wax to protect it. If Orange Oil is left on the paint too long it can damage the paint, it's pretty corrosive.

Newer stickers, like the ones dealerships slap on cars when the come in, if you get to them soon enough, often all that's needed is a hair dryer to heat them up and they peel right off. You can try this as a first attempt with an older sticker, but if it's been on there a while and baked in the sun, the hair dryer method won't help that much...

Good luck!
