Very nice. We get you some drag radials and chop 2 tenths off your 60' time and you could see 12's...

actually if your a good driver and you know what your doing you can cut off more then that.

I cut off .5 of a second from 14.3 to 13.8 with my nitto 555R's. It just takes practice :alright

Agreed. Remember though, 1 tenth in your 60' time = .15 - .25 in your ET... hence where I was going with that...

What is your setup as far as compression ratio, boost, etc?

Thanks,

Thanks guys :)

Just checked the data logs last night. The car was running up to 17.5 PSI on the night.

Sweet! Damn, there is a 318 running quicker than me. :(

Where was the track? What were the conditions?

Where was the track? What were the conditions?

The track was at Western Sydney International Dragway (WSID) in Sydney, Australia. Can't remember how cold it was, but I wasn't shaking cause I was excited :p

Someday the respect will come to the 4 bangers, and you are makin it happen. Are you runnin an M42 or 44?

Where was the track? What were the conditions?
Aaron and I had a race a bit earlier in the night, here were the conditions for that run (will be similar):

Track: WSID Sydney, Australia
Altitude above sea level: 230'
Air Temp: 52 oF
Rel Humidity: 59% (increased to 68% by 2100)
Absolute Baro: 29.25 (Stable)

Track condition: Slippery due to dust blown onto surface from nearby ongoing construction.

There's a movie of our run in the drag racing subforum if you're interested and Aaron has a vid of his best pass somewhere, too.

what kind of tires do you have?
Aaron is running street radials only, from memory they are 17" and about 235s.

With drag radials he would get a better short time.

Aaron,

Still have not seen what compression ratio you are running?

Have you done any internal motor work?

I am quite impressed, just asking questions to understand how you got there, that's all!!!

Steve, I'll try to answer for Aaron since I know he's not a frequent visitor here.

The car is an E36 318ti compact. He's running an M44 or M42 (can't remember which) at 1.9 litres and an ASA centrifugal supercharger. Boost is up at 17-18 psi at peak through a custom plenum.

The engine has forged low compression pistons and head studs as well as a stand alone Delco computer in place of the DME.

The car ran with the entire rear interior stripped out, including rear seats and passenger seat (obviously no spare tyre or jack, etc).

Thanks the the info Kenny!

Do you know the exact compression ratio? Is he running on pump gas?

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks Kenny for helping out while I was away :)

Stimpee, our R&D on what compression ratio works best is not something we're willing to hand out. As Kenny has said, we are using forged low compression pistions.

The fuel we are using is BP Ultimate found at the local fuel station.

Stimpee,
With a dohc 4 cylinder putting out 258 hp at the wheels on 17 to 18 lbs of boost the CR has to be less than 8.5 or in the ball park. The 240sx guys run 17 to 18 lbs of boost on a similar dohc 4 cylinder (still 1.8) with a turbo on 8.5 to 1 compression for close to 300 hp. Factor in the parasytic drag of the SC and you'll be close to that sort of setup. Maybe a little under. From what I've read and heard from guys that know, if you are force inducting something that is normally naturally aspirated you decrease compression ratio .1 for every lb of boost. Assuming you use the same grade of petrol pinging should be minimalized.

I'd be curious as to the car's weight ... also, what gears is he using? I agree with the comment on compression. If he's runnin' pump gas (What's the octane?) with no detonation at 17 to 18 lbs boost, then he's GOTTA be in the 7.5 to 8:1 cr range.

Being an Mcoupe owner, I obviously like something different from the norm. Well, here's a link (http://seacgp.clubgp.com/fly-n-box.html) to another 4-banger (2.2L) non-Bimmer forced induction car that I had a LOT of fun with, owning it for over 17 years. The write-up in the link is a bit dated, but you get the general idea. The "Box" (as I called it) ran in the 13's back in the late 80's. It did find its way into the 12's with some M/T slicks, but even then the boost never went over 16 lbs. I also never gutted the interior ... car was completely stock appearing at the strip! With some BFG Drag Radials (205/50x15's) ... I could pull a 2.04 60-foot, with weight transfer being its enemy! Car ran fairly consistent 13.30's at 104 to 105 thru the muffler. It made a few national mags including Turbo, Nat'l Dragster, and High-Performance Mopar. Reluctantly sold it in Feb'03 'cuz of too many other toys, but I must say ... this little unsuspecting pocket rocket sleeper was the most fun car I've ever owned. (Note: It was respectable on a road course, too ... with its KONIs on all 4 corners and some Yokie A008RS track tires.)

Now ... to possibly someday twin-screw my Mcoupe to give it as much pull as the "Box". :)

Sweet time, I've spent some time now and I cant find the ASA super charger for sale anywhere in the US. Is there a foriegn web site maybe? or something. I'd like to know more about this because it offers alot more power then the DASC.

Haha, cool car! My friend bought an Omni about 6 months ago for 200 bucks. He's working on it, probably going build a turbo 2.2L to stuff in it. We want to rip those ulgy bumpers off there and just run around with it painted black primer. It should be a bitchin' little sleeper. :devillook

a dohc 4 cylinder putting out 258 hp

The 258rwhp is a conservative figure we claim.

http://babnet.no1.com.au/ESC/RAiMA/Dyno-web.JPG

We started to loose traction after 5,500 rpms on a dyno in 4th gear after the diff ratio was changed to help traction issues.

To convert the kw to bhp, use the 1.34 conversion :)
