anyone who is lucky enough to drive a Viper or a Vette or the new Cadilac SVX or the new GTO knows that America can build with the best of them. The probelm is there are too many Americans who will settle for crap as long as it's cheap. But American car companies can meet and beat any thing made in the world. Just look at Ford's new GT 40!

I agree with what you are saying. However, the GTO is actually an Australian car. Its built by Holden in Australia. GM took them over and marketed their Monaro as the GTO here in the U.S. (along with re-worked sheet metal). But, its a pure Ausie designed car.

Just some useless info i thought some of you might appreciate.

Oh I knew that of course but that's not the point. The point is that if the general public wants to see Detroit start to match what other companies are doing, then they need to force them to do it. Marketshare runs the world. Kill the bottom line and see how fast they re-design :)

Some of the best trucks and sports cars come from this country IMO.

If I were in the market for a big diesel truck, I would look at American trucks. There are really no imports that can compare to the heavy duty trucks that come out of the "big 3." Nissan and Toyota have some nice full size trucks, but no avaliable diesels.

Also, if I had a budget for a weekend toy/track car, a Z06 would be one of the first cars I'd look at. You can get them brand new right now for $42-45k with the big discounts dealers are giving (C6 is just around the corner). There is nothing close to that price that can give the performance of a Z06.

Domestics really do need to work on their quality control on the lower end cars, and improve the styling.

Actually Nissan and Toyota do have a diesel line. Diesel is popular in all other countries because gas is so much more expensive there. Even BMW offers all their series' with diesel engines in europe. Theres just no market here in the states for that. You cant buy GM's or American model ford trucks in Europe, Africa, or Asia. The trend here in the U.S. is "bigger is better". Theres enough space here for that so its all good. The rest of the world want more compact workhorses and thats the market the import manufacturers target. Mitsubishi and Toyota pretty much control the rest of the world where diesel trucks are concerned because the rest of the world dont have roads large enough to accomodate huge American trucks.

I would even go a step further and say that their diesel lines are superior to those of GM or Ford, becasue their market is larger and thus they spend more of their resources in developing the line.

I am aware of the HUGE diesel market overseas. Just drive around anywhere outside North America, and you'll hear the "purr" :stickoutt of lots of diesels.

Problem is, they aren't over here. So, when "Joe Shmoe" goes out to look for his new Heavey Duty Diesel truck, he doesn't have many options.

I'd like to see some of the Jap brands bring their diesel trucks over. They seem to be giving the full size market lots of competition.

my brother had a c-5 corvette a few yrs ago, and i was able to borrow it for a couple days while visiting w/him in minneapolis... what a hunk of crap. i felt like it was going to fall apart, it handled like a boat, and the fucking dash had a misspelling PRINTED on one of the switches...

"guages" rather than gauges.. amazing.

There is a stigma attached with certain cars, and let's face it, stereo-types often get created for a reason...

Just live in South Jersey for a few years, and your perspective on who/what drives TransAms will be skewed unfairly in no time... ;)

Well long story short got to talking to the hot bartendress and two locol cars guys about cars!
Just sold my TA so I have been driving my parents "extra car" the M3. Since i was in a M3 i decided to go to a really upscale bar in Dallas, that is known for having hott chicks!

The Bartendress drove a Lexus Rx330
The two guys: one drove a Audi S4 and the Other drove a Porsche Carrera.

We started talking about cars!
They basically dissed American cars as poorly designed POS. They were like "we are glad you sold that POS"
They even thought that corvette's were crappy! A 3rd guy, who drove a S2000 said I would not be caught dead in a Vet
Well I told them that i just sold my 99 TA.
I sold but the F-bodies and vette could whoop your S2000, then he said yeah but you would most likey break down or blow you motor while doing it!
even the hott bartenderess was like she would never date a guys in a mustang, camaro or Ta. Said they were immature cars!


Why are american cars so looked down upon by AMERICANS!

But the biggest thing that gets me is when I see the "typical" BMW owner getting out of his car.....with his purple Izod polo shirt with the collar up and wearing shorts thinking he is the shit while driving a base 325I model :stickoutt

I immediately think "What a fuckin loser" :rolleyes:
