Rick Hill Imports (BMW section) in Kingsport, TN is --the-- worst dealership I believe I have ever been too. There are a few bright spots in this dealership's dark hole of personnel, however not many.
When I first got my car in July '01, we took it to the service department for the $62/hour used car checkup. I was handled decently this time. They checked up everything and replaced the fuses and bulbs (I believe) for the rear taillights. After one hour ($62) + parts the total was $140 some odd dollars. $80 in parts? Hmm... now that I look back on it, seems like we got screwed. However the car was in working order.
The next time I went to the dealer was probably two or three weeks after this. I needed some bulbs to put in behind the temperature/time display. I was treated extremely rude here. I walked in, not knowing where the parts department was, and asked the guy at the desk where I needed to go. He gave me the snottiest look down his nose, and points back towards the back, "It's back there" he mumbles. He looked at my friend and I like we were the scum of the earth, and we must be driving Daddy's Bimmer. This was the Service Department Manager I would find out later.
I go back to the Part Department. There is a guy on a computer doing something. He stands up, notices me, walks right by me back into the area where the parts are kept. No "Hello", "I'll be with you in a minute", nothing. He also gave me a look like I must've been with my Dad while he picked up his new car or something along those lines. He comes back from the back, walks straight back to the phone and computer he was at, and continues filling an order. About three minutes later he stands up, and asks me what I need. I tell him about the bulbs and I eventually get them.
Not to say the parts department doesn't have some good guys in it. The next time I was in there, the guys were extremely nice. I guess everyone has bad days ...
My Dad had also talked with a certain representative about his future car purchase. Apparently he has treated my Dad well.
It just seems there have been times when the entire staff looks down on their customers. They give off the attitude of "I WORK at a BMW Dealership, so I'm better than you". Very snotty ... I wouldn't recommend them.
My Dad gives mad props to Grayson BMW in Knoxville and a rep. there. I wish I had his name. He has sent us two seperate packets about the new 5-series and has talked to my Dad on the phone several times. He may just be trying to close another sale, but he's giving us due respect.
Anyone else use Grayson? I use an independent mechanic now ... I can't stand the high prices at my local and the attitude there.
That's my story :)
