I've been driving my Mitsu truck 90% of the time since I got it. Less economical on the gas, but a bit more reliable until I get my car into my garage and spruce up the engine and tranny. Then I'll be back into the e21 for the winter if all things go well. Even if I had the e21 in good running order right now, I'd only drive it after the sun went down, too hot right now.

Hello,

My other cars are a 1986 Jetta with 300k on it. Its mostly a daily driver and it has HR springs and Bilstein sports.

I also have a 2003 GTI turbo with 18 inch SSR gts that are going on it as well as R32 cailpers.

My 1979 323i will finally be coming out of the shop soon. :redspot :buttrock

Well, here are a few pics:

My Jetta, my current blue '83 320i when I first got it, and the '81 I just sold to Joey.
http://e21.tricord.cjb.net/members/uberpanzer/Jetta.jpg

And here are the two best 4 cylinder model e30's that BMW imported into the States:
http://e21.tricord.cjb.net/members/uberpanzer/furious4s.jpg

So, I'm down to only 4 cars total now, the '83 320i, '90 M3, '91 318iS, and '98 Jetta.

The M3, for those that aren't paying attention, is sitting awaiting a motor. I put a rod through the side of the block at Willow Springs on Nov 2 '03. I still don't see it up for another year since this is going to be a NICE motor. Still S14 of course!

The 318iS was one of those deals that you hear about a friend of someone online getting. The lady I bought it from took it to her mechanic after it wouldn't start. He did a compression test and told her that one of the cylinders was at 60psi, meaning massive engine damage, ie bad motor. She brought the car back home, sat on it for a while and then sold it to me for $800 before moving back east. I took it to MY mechanic to see what was wrong with the motor. He charged up the battery and off I went with a GOOD compression test. Lucky ME! Currently it is a daily car, and I am ~TRYING~ to keep it fairly stock since it is a great daily car (self adjusting valves!!!). But the AC compressor froze back in May, so I cut the belt and am waiting to fix that.

In the mean time the Jetta is doing daily driving duties when I go somewhere with the g/f or HAVE to have AC. It also has a HUGE trunk (even by BMW standards), so it also gets hauling duties. It has a Neuspeed P-Flo intake, Magna-Flo muffler (not a true cat-back), and 17in wheels with Parada SpecII. I flip flop back on forth on selling the car, but I really can't fault it. It is one of those cars that just keeps surprising you with what it can do, but lately the handling has been bugging me. I want to lower it too, and the current stock stuff IS blown out, which doesn't help.

Oh, and for those that think that I have a four 4 bangers as things might seem, just remember that the Jetta is a 5 lug. In the MkIII chassis that means it has a VR6. Watch out, she likes to pick on stock 1.8T's and unsuspecting e36 non-M's....and win!

daily driver is a 1996 Toyota Corolla 1.6L with 280,000km's and still running strong. I get about 20km/L, driven both hard and easy. It had no tach so i installed one (dont worry, not a monster tach) . I live in the woods where animals are a constant hazard, so I installed some bosch driving lights. I bought some cheap eagle alloys so that I had 2 sets of rims so I would save $100/year to install winters and summers on one set of rims, and I bought a bra to cover all the scratches on the bumper, but on the top piece, a strap broke.

here is a shitty pic..

other cars I sometimes drive, are a 1995 VW Passat Turbo D, and a 2003 Corolla.

got a 2002 pontiac grand am se as well. The kid is getting older now and I hate family cars, so me and the wife are working on getting rid of it. Unfortunately the car is depreciating faster than we can pay it off!! Gotta luv that!

I'm back to bimmers after being gone for a long time. past bimmers 72 2002, 76 2002, 77 320i, present 81 323i, I'm in the 80's yes. O'h and I'm 30, don't like them there new fangled rigs. The 320/6 is my daily driver, but sometimes I end up driving another family car to save on petrol :)

I usually drive the '88 Audi 100 Quattro Avant, a car I like very much.
There's the family car, a VW Sharan 1.9TDI
Right now, I'm driving my grandmothers VW Polo 1.0 with a whopping 45hp :D

Oh dear lord! I think I'd shoot myself in the foot if I had to try and manuver in traffic around here with a 45hp car. It's worse than a Geo Metro!

uberpanzer
08-10-2004, 04:42 AM
But it probably weighs less than a 3 bander Metro. Besides, it is a German car so it probably has SOME torque.....I hope.

What's funny though is I want to get my e21 back on the road to SAVE on gas vs my other cars! My VW eats waaaaaay too much gas. 26mpg on the highway using the AC off and on. (highway speeds of 80-90 though....)

Echo
08-10-2004, 10:21 AM
Yeah Doug, 26mpg is just to much..... you bastard.... i just drove all the way to san francisco and back and was happy that the e28 was getting 20.5mpg.... thats awesome milage for that car... and A/C what???

EFreak
08-11-2004, 01:45 AM
I only get about 23mpg in my E21.............

uberpanzer
08-11-2004, 01:56 AM
I was getting close to 30ish in my e21 before I let the battery die (didn't realize the hazard switch had popped out). I think I may have been able to get higher though since I was running the oversized rear tires though, helping a lot on the highway. But right now I'm driving the e30 to work, getting close to 30mpg in it at 'my' highway speeds. Pretty good for a car with a 4.10 diff, but I would like to get the 3.73 to commute in it with.

Oh, and the e21 also can use 87 octane where the e30 needs 91 due to the higher compression ratio. $2/tank can add up over time....

At the moment, my other cars are a heavily modified E36 M3 and a MB 190E 2.3-16. I say at the moment because I am constantly looking for another car. I have it in my head that I can try to own every car i have ever wanted, within reason, for at least a little while. I am selling the 190 and looking for something to replace it. Doug, want to trade you 318is for the 190? :D Anyways, a couple of other cars I am looking to own for a little bit in the future: Renault R5 turbo, E30 M3, AE86, 510, Audi quattro short wheelbase, and an OG AMG Hammer. if you know someone who has one for a good price, let me know.

don't own an e21 yet, but I've been camping this forum because I saw what I considered to be a good example the other day, and I wanted to learn more.

Other cars: '95 m3, '03 Z06, '01 Sebring LXi Vert, '95 Sunfire, '90 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, '00 Ducati 750 Monster Dark + a few non street legal items

Ran out of garage space a long long time ago.

Other than the 83 320i I often drive a 88 Chrystler Conquest that I recently purchased from my dad. Factory F/I but chipped and with upgraded suspension. Faster than the bimmer (for now) but I'd take the E21 in twisties over it any day.

I also drive a 1984 dodge ram van for my dj work, and to and from school. a HOG on gas, but it has a/c and it keeps miles and wear and tear off the E21.

For awhile now I've been driving my Grandmothers 99 Camary with 11k miles on it, nothing special at all but its a free car and runs perfect, a/c will freeze your balls and its got a great stock system. I've only upgraded the interior with an air freshner tree in the aroma of Coconut :stickoutt

Lets not forget about my sharknosed bandit...

i recently picked up a 1996 Jeep grand cherokee to drive to school and back. plus it will help preserve the e21 from the harsh life in Philadelphia and the nasty winters in central PA. plus it has some off road ability if i need it. i have a new digital camera but i have not taken any pictures yet.

also in the family we we have a 1995 alpine white M3. an amazing car. hopefully one day my e21 will be able to show it a thing or two :devillook
