View Full Version : Tint: 20% or 35%?

Just curious what you guys thought between 35% and 20% tint.

I wish there were something in between cause 20 seems too dark sometimes, and 35 can seem pretty light during the day. I hear stories about people having difficulty backing up at night with 20% as rear visibility is greatly affected.

I am most interested in keeping the heat out and get a little relief from the sun.

Anybody with one % tint wish they had gone with the other? If so, why? Are you happy with your current % tint?

Please explain! :-)

BTW, I am going to have it done at Solar Eclipse in Buford this Saturday. Seems like a good place and they are closer to me than Lawrenceville.

Film will be 3M color stable.

I say medium. But I drive around in a fishbowl, so what do I know? :dunno

True...go medium. Too dark of a tint can cause driving hazards at night and/or cloudy and rainy weather.

I think 20% looks better but go 35% if you don't wanna have any issues with the po-po.

I got tired of worrying about it so I stay w/in the legal limit now.

I've had no problems whatsoever from it being hard to see out of or from the po-leece.

35% has my vote.

20%...35% is like having literally no tint in your car at all..

I've had 5 cars tinted in my lifetime, from 35% to 20% to 5% and 35% was the worst! :)

35%...
But if I had it to do over I would go slightly darker...

Didn't the cop give you a hard time about your tint when you got pulled on 85@Pleasant hill?

I know he let you go, but he questioned you about it didn't he?

20% is not too dark...it looks good. When I had 35% on my old legend...I always wanted it darker...now...I am happy!

Yeah, he asked me about it. He just wanted to get me for something since he didn't clock me.

hasn't the tint law been thrown out till next year anyways?

how much does solar eclipse charge?

I think it was either $210 or $240, don't remember.

With some later searching, I found a coupon for $20 off (http://www.gwinnettshops.com/solareclipse/) on the internet! woohoo! Expires at the end of this month.

At this point I'm VERY happy I stuck with 35%. NC checks tint % at the time of inspection. I've failed their test by less than 2% once and had to have all the tint removed. What a PITA it was.

I imagine GA will eventually require tint meters for inspection stations.....at which point most of you will have to remove that 20% tint. Just a little food for thought.

Maybe when I am seeing people with (IMO) really dark tint, they must be running 5-10% or something.

As far as the law goes, I could really care less. I always evaluate laws and then determine if they apply to me or not. :devillook

Geordie made a point the other day that anything lighter than 20% and you are wasting your money (i.e. no real benefit as its not noticeable enough). My follow-up question: Is that for looks or heat concerns? I suspect it was heat.

3M now makes some much more effective films as far as heat goes (atleast according to their glossy's). Their 35% is almost effective as the regular 20%.

Tough call. Maybe I need to see more vehicles with the tint in question?

Ditto. Twenty percent looks better. It does keep the car a little cooler. But I was unwilling to chance a run-in with Johnny Law, so I kept mine legal. Often, I wish I'd gone with 20%, but...

I've had no problems whatsoever from it being hard to see out of or from the po-leece.

My run-ins with the law and my misfortune in those run-ins is well-documented, so I need to stay legal.

If your luck is like Geordie's, go 20%. If your luck is like mine (ie, you get arrested on Barrett Pkwy and charged with racing and reckless driving when you broke absolutely NO laws at any point), then go with 35%.

I have tint on my car but not sure what it is. Bought it that way. I also think that the windsheild has tint but I dont know if its just me.

I got 35% on the front of my wifes protege and 20% in the rear and to tell you the truth there is barely a difference.

I think it was either $210 or $240, don't remember.
I paid 150 for 7 windows and a sunstrip for the protege5.

Has anybody gone 20% and wished they had 35%?

Def

I remember in my old Integra I had 35% and always wished I had 20% during the day. I'd still get glare, and the sun coming in from the side would still seem VERY bright. At night it was hard to back up even with 35% if you I was in a very low light environment.

I think if you're set on tint, then you should bite the bullet and go 20%. 35% really is very light. 35% by itself does make a big difference in how hot the car gets though...

Trust me do not get 35% I had that one 2 previous cars. It sucks. Its not dark enough. On bright sunny days you wish you got something darker. If you want 35% at least get 20% on the back glass and get 20% on the back passenger windows and 35% on the front 2 doors. That would be the only combo I would get with 35%.

Now on my car I got Limo 5% on the back glass only and 20% on every window and put a 9in limo 5% strip on my windshield.

That to me is the perfect combo. I can still see out at night fine and having the darker tint on the rear glass lets less light in makes it a little darker in the cabin.

I used solarworks in alpharetta and they scratched my car. About a 3 inch hairline scratch above the rear pocket window. It's been three weeks and I am still ticked...the 35% looks good though...

So the poll is split 50/50...

Those who voted 35%, why? (but please don't mention legal reasons)

I think the 20% guys are putting up a better argument! hah.

Legal reason is no issue since the law is no longer in effect. And if it was there is a way around it. Get 20%. Like i said earlier get the back glass and side windows 20% and the front doors 35%.

Thats what I did and I like it. Just makes backing up a little bit of a problem in low light areas. And with the 35 up front it makes it easier to drive at night.

The law is no longer in effect????????

Do 5%...lol...you'll get used to it :) Been in GA for 3 years now and no hassle's...
But 5% does take some getting used to at night...

I still vote for 20%! :)
