I'd like to goto some auto-x events this fall. How do I go about entering? What do I need to run (helemet, etc)?
Can I just show-up to an event?

View Full Version : I want to autocross...what do I need to get started? Keda 07-20-2004, 09:40 AM I'd like to goto some auto-x events this fall. How do I go about entering? What do I need to run (helemet, etc)? Can I just show-up to an event? Andy 07-20-2004, 09:54 AM Just show up to an event. Ask some people to ride along with them to get an idea of what to expect. Once you feel comfortable, find out when registration opens for the upcoming events and make sure you register right at the specified time. They have loaner helmets there if you don't have one. You can use a motorcycle helmet too if you have one. Jed 07-20-2004, 09:55 AM I'd like to goto some auto-x events this fall. How do I go about entering? What do I need to run (helemet, etc)? Can I just show-up to an event? Sounds like this will be your first time out! Definitely check out the BMWCCA National Capital Chapter (NCC) events. Very laid back and a great place to learn: http://www.nccbmwcca.org/index.php?autocross There is a place to register on the site. As for helmets, there are loaner helmets there. You can show up to the event, and although occassionally there are no-shows, you aren't guaranteed to get a spot. Just make sure your car's fluids are all topped off and in good working condition. When you get there and get teched, you will need to remove all loose items from the car. Look for any of us-we all usually go out with the new guys and give them rides. Depending on what event you want to run you need to register at one of a few websites. For SCCA and Council events, the address is www.autocrossers.com or, for BMW Club events, it is www.nccbmwcca.org. You will find schedules and click on the date you want to sign up for. You are required to use a helmet when running but everyone has loaners you can use. Other than that, bring yourself, your car (unloaded, no sub boxes empty of loose stuff) and air up your tires. Pete Keda 07-20-2004, 10:02 AM Cool! It sounds like I should just show up to my first event and do a ride along. If a space were to open up, I'd jump on it. It looks like there are a few events in August I might be able to make. bren 07-20-2004, 10:20 AM If you are going to show up you might as well just register. Keep an eye on the autox school that the NCC is hosting next month. When (if) registration ever opens up you should enter. That will be the best way to get started. Keda 07-20-2004, 10:34 AM Good point. I'll go ahead and register for the Man-ass event on 8/28. registration is not available yet, so I'll check back later this week. Yeah registration opens 30 days before the event and closes 3 days before the event. Ugh. Driving down to Mans-asses to the crappy lot with grass sticking out of it. POOR! bren 07-20-2004, 10:38 AM Ugh. Driving down to Mans-asses to the crappy lot with grass sticking out of it. POOR! G.T. 07-20-2004, 10:41 AM Ugh. Driving down to Mans-asses to the crappy lot with grass sticking out of it. POOR! I agree, although that cute, topless girl that was spectating from those townhouses across the street certainly has me looking forward to going there again! I couldn't believe it when I first saw her, but she was ther! Funny thing was that after seeing her, I couldn't keep my mind on autocross! AlfaEric 07-20-2004, 11:14 AM Cool! That's what I did. I showed up for a couple events and took a few rides then when I saw they had open slots I registered. ---Eric Mikey52 07-20-2004, 11:37 AM I agree, although that cute, topless girl that was spectating from those townhouses across the street certainly has me looking forward to going there again! There were boobies at this autocross and you didnt tell everyone?! Selfish bastard! Keda 07-20-2004, 11:39 AM Topless girls! Whoa, now that would make for a good event. ;) I'm going to register. I've driven on many twisties, but never a defined course. This should be fun. John V 07-20-2004, 12:19 PM There were a couple cuties AT the event, too. Of course, I brought one of them with me and went home with her, too... Rawr. I want to know who the other one was, though. (shifty eyes) G.T. 07-20-2004, 12:36 PM Wait, wait...wait. There were boobies at this autocross and you didnt tell everyone?! Selfish bastard! I was afraid that if I pointed her out, it would be too obvious that people were looking and she'd go back indoors. That's why I kept what appeared to be 36DDs to myself. I feel like breastfeeding right now. wludavid 07-20-2004, 12:36 PM I agree, although that cute, topless girl that was spectating from those townhouses across the street certainly has me looking forward to going there again! I couldn't believe it when I first saw her, but she was ther! Funny thing was that after seeing her, I couldn't keep my mind on autocross! I can't believe I missed that! I was just out there to watch anyway. I really should be more aware of my surroundings. :) Keda - I didn't happen to meet you a few months ago when I was looking for a roommate, did I? I know I talked to one guy from Crystal City who drove an M3. Keda 07-20-2004, 12:53 PM No, I don't think we have met. I've been in my place for over a year and my next step will be a house. bogdan 07-20-2004, 02:42 PM I was afraid that if I pointed her out, it would be too obvious that people were looking and she'd go back indoors. That's why I kept what appeared to be 36DDs to myself. I feel like breastfeeding right now. you really suck for not pointing that out. :nono come to think of it, maybe that is why so many people were off course in the first heat. hopefully she'll pop out next time too. :D dinomite 07-20-2004, 02:45 PM Good point. I'll go ahead and register for the Man-ass event on 8/28. registration is not available yet, so I'll check back later this week. Yeah, if you're comfortable driving your car, you'll be fine at your first event. I drove my first autocross a couple of weeks after I got my M3. My previous car was a 1990 Mustang, so, no connection there... G.T. 07-20-2004, 03:51 PM you really suck for not pointing that out. :nono come to think of it, maybe that is why so many people were off course in the first heat. hopefully she'll pop out next time too. :D The ironic thing, Mikey, is that I think she's a Vette fan. On the fence in her yard was one of those flag/banner thingies and I could've sworn it was the Corvette logo. There was a C4 parked right outside her house, too. You coulda scored, dude! schosports 07-20-2004, 04:45 PM I feel like breastfeeding right now. I don't think you would have a problem with that right about now. Dammit, Bill...I'm talking about other chicks' mammary glands! You know, stuff that I can't have no more... :( G.T. 07-20-2004, 07:21 PM Dammit! Maybe Ill mosey on over there next month and show her that my top comes off as well. :naughty: You might catch pneumonia or something... C///M3 07-21-2004, 05:03 PM I wanna get in on some of this action as well! Keda, maybe we can roll together and both be the noobs. :D Keda 07-21-2004, 05:07 PM Sounds good! I put the day on my calendar and am waiting to sign up. |
