Its the performance level, in between race and sport. Louder than sport but not as bad as race. Yeah, we can meet. I get back into town on late Wednesday night so anytime after that. I can' this weekend as I'm running in the NE Div tour.

Um, that's it actually.

BTW: Does anyone have an AA track pipe? Is it worth it and where could I get a custom one done?

I have an AA track pipe, I took it off to pass emissions and I am currently undecided if I want to put it back on or not. I am hesitant because I believe I would be arrested or at least get an enormous ticket if I was caught with it on my car. However, while the TP was on my car I loved it, it made the exhaust note better (quieter in fact) and the hp gains were noticeable. I would be willing to entertain offers if you're interested.

How would they catch you with it on the car? Worst that would happen would be that your exhaust was too loud and you get repair order ticket -- in which case you have 30 days to take it back off and get it fixed.
No cop is going to go crawling under your car to see if you have a track pipe or not.

That's the first thing that I thought too, I was simply taking advice from a "veteran." I'm still trying to get used to all the damn laws in this state (errr Commonwealth) regarding this kind of thing. With the limited road time that the car sees I'm thinking more and more that it's a risk worth taking.

Has anyone been caught with a track pipe? Or heard of anyone that has?

Occasional autoX or on the road, drowning out other cars.
I like it alot. IMHO it sounds like Speed Touring cars. Loud, but not obnoxious, real burbally (is that a word?) below 3K rpm, above 3K a nice roar. Does tend to drone a bit at highway speeds, but that's why there's a stereo in the car. :) It does draw the occasional look or comment but I haven't gotten any undo attention from the law yet.

I'm contemplating just going with a magnaflow resonator and some custom straight pipes...is the sound refined or does it sound like shit? Loud? I understand that you have a boxer and I have an inline, but I'm just feeling for general ideas. Does magnaflow have different resonators in terms of sound volume?

Ron-did you find that your Rogue sounded different on your 323 than on your conversion? I noticed that it sounded deeper and bassy in my car than on John's M3. I am guessing that is because his motor moves more air than mine.

Or did you put the AA track pipe and headers when you did your conversion and never got a more direct comparison?

Hey Jed,

I can't give an honest comparison since the cats I purchased with the conversion were garbage (thanks Tory! :pityfool) I bought the Crack Pipe in a pinch to get the car going and I believe the crack pipe changes the tone of the exhaust considerably. It is now higher pitched and has a raspy note to it when pushed over 5k.

The headers were added later and didn't change the tone too much but mid and upper range power was enhanced.

So, I can't say that I do have a direct comparison for the car but now that it's pushing more air (3.2L vs 2.5L), yeah it sounds very brassy and nearly mechanical sounding when running towards the redline. I like the sound so the setup is staying as it is for now.

I do have cats that fit at home now but I don't see a need to change over since my car passed inspection in June with the crack pipe installed. :cool

Rogue is awesome. I traded my Eisenmann Race for a Rogue unit. The Rogue is definitely louder. The only think I miss is the high-pitched wailing from the Eisenmann at 5000+ RPM's. But since I'm never past 4000 RPM's, I love the deep, bassy sound from the Rogue.

Jed and Ron, do you have the silencer tips on your Rogue units? Mine seems to have two smaller tips inside the main tips. Does yours have this too?

themadhatter
08-12-2004, 04:17 AM
dave,

those are the fluted tips, they are shaped that way for tone control. it's part of the tuning of the exhaust...rather then just sticking tips on a universal and calling it a 'tuned' system.

I don't have silencers on mine and neither do you from the sound of it...no pun intended :stickoutt

Could be alot, I think it sounds like Exton, PA to me which is 3 mins from my house. As for loud E30 exhuast try cutting the down pipe so its just straight tubing then running just a muffler, or what ever you want to call it. Ive been meaning to do this chop but havent gotten to it. this would give it a little more sound but not much. I run a Stromung and its loud at high RPM and idle its a nice deep purr.

well I am comparing it to the supersprint. The TSE has the same hang to the left as the system U. In all fairness I did not try to re-adjust it by losening the cats and bla bla bla, way to much work for what seems like a fix that works in theory but many people cannot get it right so I do not feel like wasting my time lying under the car again.

The supersprint I had on before just bolted right up in the correct position. I did not have to force it anywhere to get the muffler hangers to fit or anything like that compared to the TSE. But the sound of the TSE makes up for it :D

a hammer, welder, pry bar and violence will fix anything on a car. except for broken finger due to smashing them with the hammer.

I just used a big ass pry bar to bend the hangers, and it seemed to do the trick with the System U. Now I need to replace my right exhaust mount to further solidify alignment....

Exhaust: B&B TriFlo & AA Crack pipe
Where: Bowie, MD
When: Can you hear me now?
Sound:Loud and Deep. Did I said loud?

I need to replace this exhaust. My car is my daily driver and the sound is too much driving 26 miles each way. I would like to check out the AA mufler (UNR can you help?) I would like you hear your system since you have the track pipe as well.

Surfacewound,

I would like to check your SS as well.

Ron,

I'm not 60 yet, heck I'm not as old as Jed either :devillook :D but the BB Triflo is way too much for a daily driver.

Got rid of the old HKS exhaust

What exhaust? Active Autowerk Gen.III
Where are you? Potomac, MD
When can we hear it? On weekends
How do you like it? (loud, not loud, raspy, etc.) I love it. It's aggressive and lets people know that Kim is there.

This exhaust is on a 2.8L, so it's going to sound a bit different than on a 2.5/3.0/3.2L

What exhaust? Hybrid M5 B&B Triflow with Magnaflow dual cats
Where Outside of Philly
When can we hear it? Of course you can
How do you like it? (loud, not loud, raspy, etc.) It's loud, as fack, louder than any Eisenmann i've ever heard.

It's a M50 with stock 1.75" dual system removed, and subbed in is welded 2.0" magnaflow catalytic converters which then step up again to the M5 2.25" B&B Triflow exhaust... it's really loud...

When can we hear it? Whenever
How do you like it? (loud, not loud, raspy, etc.) Nice burble at idle, loud at WOT. Can give a headache sitting in the left lane with the window down for long periods of time (bouncing off the cement divider).
