Maybe it's an ignorant question, but if I goof up, THAT would be more ignorant! :(

I need to get under my M3 to install a few new pieces. I've got a stout set of jack stands and a decent blackjack.

Where to place the stands seems clear, but from where to raise the car with the floor jack is not so clear, at least from initial kneel.

So... where do I place the floor jack to raise the front?

On a related note, for those of us withOUT access to a lift, are you finding ramps to be beneficial (over jack stands) for under car work where free hanging suspension isn't needed?

What ramps have you found to be quality? Sources, etc. would be appreciated!

Jack it up from under the engine crossmember. You may need to lift the body a few inches using the spare tire jack to be able to get a floor jack under the car though, especially if it's lowered.

From what I see/guess, that is the round member in front of the sump?

Thank you!

Not the bolt on ~1" diameter bar, but the much larger heavy duty hunk of metal just to the rear of the steering rack. This should help.....
