1988 M6 here, I'am lookingf to get rid of the self levelling suspension she has & get some advise on what to replace it with. Where from? thanks. The self levelling suspension on her is making a thumping sound. Like a strut has come loose or something. I'am thinking of replacing them with billstean shocks in front & rear as well as H&R springs. Any better suggestions

Sounds like you're on the right track w/ H&R and Bilsteins.

I've got an 84 633 csi and upgraded original shocks/springs to H&R and Bilstein sports. All good and the lowering was very nice looking. BUT the side effect was a fairly quick deterioration of the suspension (bushings).

So, what my mechanic and his friend (guy who worked many many years for BMW) recommended was to upgrade suspension to 750 series - heavy duty, including aluminum lower control arms. Your M6 probably won't need that, but just FYI.

Prairieman -

I had to back out of SE SF 2 weeks ago. :(

I had actually had reservations at one of the B & B's had to give them up too.

THe car just demended too much cash thrown at her lately :

Tranny job
Driveline job (one month later, jerk that did tranny didn't bother to warn me about CB, Flexdisc, etc about to go, or I would've had them done then, and I asked him too!!!)
Exhaust
Powersteering rehab coming (box, accumulator, booster, regulator)
AC R-134A conversion coming.

All since FEB.

It was that and a few other things, it was a give and take.

I had to cancel a MArdi-GRAs trip to New Orleans as well. (did that first in effort to save SE SF trip, then driveline went.)

It Really pissed me off to miss it, even more so now that I'm seeing all the pics from this past weekend.

I will be there next year with a vengeance, the car (hopefully) will be almost fully restored by then.

I even drove up there with Nat and Kai in January when Kai came up for the initial look-see.

The tranny went one week later, then it started.

It was cancel sharkfest trip or cancel Germany trip in fall (which may happen anyway depending on the "state of things" here soon)

I just bought it a few weeks ago for $400. Its in good shape. The only rust I have found so far is from rock chips on the hood. It idles rough, but runs good. The interior is a bit rough too. It'll be a fun project. :)

1989 Highline Auto (L6) in black - awaiting total rebuild although it doesn't need it.

Project is to make something very special and something I can be proud of, 1991 M5 engine - Getrag 280 5 speed manual gearbox - M6 Diff - ALL waiting to be installed - will change colour to Candy Blue or similar and very big alloys.

OK since this thread is active again and I am new shark owner:

89 Highline - auto (Darn it) 161,000 miles white ext/blk interior. I purchased from an auto auction with destruction title, but the car had only a light hit in front. Still runs, looks and drives great. Awaiting repair now. Will have to pull some strings to get a title!

This car was too nice to scrap and I will have a great car for not a lot of money. Purchased new front air dam and got some used front end parts from funkmasta. Looking forward to getting it fixed. Its at a friends shop and he is going to work it in when he can, meaning when he doesn't have anything else to work on, he will work on the 6er.

If anyone is interested I would sell it with all the parts to fix it. I have bought a lot of other parts such as new lens, switches etc. that are not bad but needed to be replaced due to wear.

Picked up my '85 last October, the poor baby was in really bad shape. She had been sitting on blocks for over a year, didn't run, brakes were shot, interior was shot. It "was" (possibly still is) a poor excuse for a parts car, nice straight body with no rust though. I got it in the garage and had it running in about six hours, lots of TLC for the past eleven months, still alot of work to go, but it is my daily driver at this point. It's a blast to drive.

I've fixed a thousand (at least it feels like it) little things, windows, dash electrical, sun roof, attempted to buff out the paint, but it's gone, and a new clutch. I've got wheels from an 850 on it to get me away from the TRXs. It's not a pretty baby like most of yours (yet), but we're getting closer every day.

I had pulled the turbo motor out of the 633 to put in the 635, so I still had the 633 shell, luckily. I cut the back of the 633 off and repaired the 635. It just needs paint now.

this thread has legs. :redspot

shortly after initiating the plea for E24 owners to stand up and be counted, waaaay back in 2001, I managed to kill a large deer with my sixer, badly damaging the car. bought a rusty euro for the sheetmetal, eventually installed the euro powertrain, along with a complete re-spray. the car is my daily driver. my youngest son got his driver's license and after a deliberate search, located a 1979 633CSi and drives it daily.

Had an 81 633 which I dearly loved but then decided to buy a 635 cause I couldn't get the cruise to work on the 633 (no one would or knew how to work on the vacuum cruise). Bought an 85 635 and am in process of getting it reliable which is a chore. Often believe I should just get out of the 6 and into a late 3 or something more reliable. But then I take the 6 for a drive and change my mind again. Don't know how to get pics to here but have one on my Blog on Roadfly. Can you move them from the blog to here???
