I'm sure there are many E30 M3 owners and enthusiasts out there. All it takes is two people to start the traffic flowing. When others see the posts, they will join in.

Hmmm...ok, so lets start a discussion:

I've been considering selling my '98 M3 recently to get a '95. This is mainly b/c I prefer the upgradibility of the OBDI engine (not to mention the possibility of doing a S52 Euro transplant). Do you think I'm crazy for thinking of doing this (any reccomendations)? Also, what do you think of '99-'00 M Coupes? I've heard that some M3 owners don't particuarly prefer the steering (said too light), and the fact that you sit on the rear axle. Storage capacity isn't a concern for me, and, unlike many, I like the styling of the M Coupe.

A final question: As a newbie to this board, I notice that I have a "Junior Member" as my title, and Bob///M3 has a "Super Moderator" as his. What causes someone's title to be upgraded, time, number of posts, god?

Evan,

You actually have a E36 model M3 however we are discussing this topic on the "E30" M3 forum!

If you will be modifying your M3 to any degree like adding a supercharger or turbocharger, cams, headwork, etc., I would suggest you consider the '95 OBDI in lieu of the later model OBDII. The OBDI engine has less engine management to contend with compared to the OBDII engines.

As for the M Coupe, I like the car but it doesn't meet my needs. I've only been a passenger in one, once. I have no clue about the steering being too tight, however I would much rather have "tight" steering than loose steering, or over-boosted steering, assuming your description of "tight" means it is just harder to steer at slow speeds but you are able to feel the road better.

In reference to sitting toward the rear axle in the M Coupe, I feel anytime the driver is positioned to far from what is considered normal for any car you have a different sensation of the car's handling characteristics. I'm sure it takes some getting used to in order to drive the car at its limits. Then again, I'm sure BMW was very much aware of what they were doing when they engineered the car. Having no experience with the M Coupe at all, I can't speak with any authority on it at all.

Your "Newbie" status changes after the number of posts reaches either 30 or 50 (I forgot which), so post away! Moderators of different forums have moderator status.

I would suggest you post your comments or questions on the forums which your comments or questions applies. In your case, the M3 (E36) forum for the '95 thru '99 M3 posts and the M Coupe forum for the M Coupe posts. You (we) are actually on the "E30" M3 forum which is the pre-'95 M3 forum...

Ah, good call on the e36/e30 board conflict. Sorry about that, I was just attempting to get a thread started on this board to show some activity. On the M Coupe "tight" steering comment, I actually said "light," as I think it would take a lot for me to think that the steering was too tight.

Over and out,

Sorry, I read "light" as "tight" referring to the steering! Too early in the morning I guess.

Take care and enjoy!
