Any club racers in UT? Anybody regularly attend DE's? Where are all the good Karting places? Nascart sucks. I heard there is an outdoor kart track up in Tooele. Is that true?

What about that road course Larry Miller has in the works? Where can I find updates and info on that?

AutoX does pretty well here. I'm not all that interested in autox though. I would like to see more road racing/karting.

Looking for some fellow track junkies in a seemingly track junkie-less state.

Which is the closest track for SLC? Vegas speedway, 2nd Creek...??

Why are you sour on Nascart now?

Everything at Nascart is too inconsistent. Most of the karts are in terrible shape. You get lucky if you have a fast kart. Otherwise they are all slow, bent out of alignment, and have mixed old and new tires. My last kart sucked hard core. It would turn left great but right handers would cause it to slide. The steering wheels are getting holes in them too.

I think it's just time to grow into something bigger, better, and faster. I would eventually like to buy a kart of my own.

There will never be an excuse for you not coming. :nono

I guess nobody races in UT. :( Or if they do, they haven't heard of the BFC. But who hasn't heard of BF?

Looks like I am on my own.

Jeff Blonder does a bunch of driving schools in his M5 as do several local Porche guys. Vegas runs one or 2 a year as to a couple Cali tracks.

I'd love to try, but a good size hike to do it, not to mention the cost.

I agree on the hike. It's not exactly next door. I hear the cost can be a bit more friendly sometimes... $150 for a weekend doesn't seem too bad until you figure in hotel, gas, tires, brake pads, and time spent. The more pricey runs make me wish I had picked another hobby. I'm trying to think of a way to put up a tent somwhere next to the track to sleep in overnight without paying for space at a KOA. :devillook

I've talked with Jeff a bit. Mostly while we were dyno-ing his M5 last year. I know he tracks that beast every so often and he had purchased a 99 red M3 coupe as a track car last year. I don't know how often he runs or when I just know he does it more than I do. That man has too much money. 99 M3, 04? M3 vert, M5, X5, 02? Jeep Grand Cherokee...

I've seen 2 P cars that look like contenders out on the street. A 993 911, maroon colored, dropped, I believe a roll bar, and numbers in the window. The other car I saw only for a split second in my rearview. It was a 996 of sorts with what looked like Fikse FM10 wheels and slicks, again with vinyl numbers in the window. I would like to get in touch with a few of these guys. Maybe they could offer some tips and advice for a nOOb. :help

Jeff seems to do 5 or 6 schools a year, but like you said he also seems to have far to much money.

They seem to do 1 school a year in Vegas and if it would happen on a weekend I'm free and have the money I'd be interested.

We really need a track closer. I love drag racing and have cars that do that well. My BMW does not however and drving around cones is not my idea of a great time.

I would be SO down for a track day or driving school if one were around. I'm not doing the NASCART thing again unless we get another fatbody that I can race against. I don't stand a chance against you 120 pounders!!! :stickoutt

These are the ones "close" I know of. None to close however. I know they do one in Vegas each year too but I think it has passed.

A girl at my work just gave me a booklet from her dad about a driving school he is holding in August. Its 250 bucks and he is using some track at an airport near wendover. If anyone is interested I'll get you the info and a copy of the booklet. Looks like its a 2 day course and covers everything from beginner to advanced techniques.

I second that Jack. I would love a copy of that if I may. I'll scan it for anyone interested. Or if you don't mind, post the info in this thread.

OT: Rob, I left a note on Josh's desk today for him to call you. His wife is ready to pop (9 months) and he was up till 5am last night working on TS molds. I apologize for any inconvenience. Hope he calls...

There is always Solo2 (autocross). If piloting your car through cones isn't that thrilling to you (give it a try if you haven't yet, you might change your mind), you can run shifter karts there. I invite anyone to come ride along with me. I'm in either a red 332is or green Cooper S. I'm at every event. www.utahscca.com

Speed Street in Layton is an indoor track. Similar in principle to Fastcart/Nascart, but much better equipment and nice owner. www.speedstreetindoorraceway.com

There are two outdoor kart tracks I know of. One in Tooele, one in northern Utah County. Never been, but I hear they are major fun. Need your own kart, though. Don't have his #, but Dewey Potter is a man I know who runs both tracks. I'll try to get some contact info for you.

Utah road course: Larry Miller is very serious about this. The Utah Region SCCA is very excited and doing what they can to help. This is another reason to autocross, you can get inside info about this there. Look for the track, probably in the south end of SL valley, in 2006.

DE's/track days/etc- Some of the members of the local BMWCCA chapter (Wasatch) are involved in these. Ray Carrier is someone to talk to as well as Jeff Blonder. Also, if Todd Green is down at Eurosport when you're there, ask him about it as he's been on the track before. wasatchbmwcca.org

Thanks Keith. I should have just talked to you! Oh wait, you never come to any of our meets and everytime I go to an autoX you aren't there.

How's the car coming? Have you got everything sorted yet?

Maybe we need to set up some charity events and a donation site to help the road course along. I know Larry Miller is made of money but the sooner we get things building the better.

Speedstreet sounds like a nice place. I'll be running down there as soon as I can.

I've talked to Todd on more than one occasion about the hitting the track. He enjoyed it but says it was too expensive (compared to solo2) to have as a hobby.

I'll come out and ride with you at the next autoX I can make it to. I'll probably be running my car as well.

I'd be interested. Is there a way to get the info from you? Are convertibles accepted?

BTW, I have great fun with Auto-X. GSBMW325is is driving the hell out of his bimmer. Anyone who measures fun in G-forces won't be disappointed ridding with him. The next (non-point) event is Saturday, July 17, at Deer Valley. The next point event is Sunday, at the E-Center in SLC.

Although I'm literally seconds slower I also would be happy to give anyone a ride. The best thing to do though is to bring your own car and give it a try. There will be plenty of people withs tons of experience who will be happy to show you how it's done.

I'm always up for a ride along.

Looks like I didn't run in the last autoX. :stickoutt My tires are still to blame, which, in the end, all comes back to me. :( BUT, they are ordered and should be here in "3-4 business days" as per the website. I'll see how that goes. If they are here before Saturday, I'll be out at the autoX running and riding. :buttrock Talking to Todd today has got me all excited about it. I love my job. :D

Good thing BFC is finally back up. I was going through withdrawals!

The guy that hit me is fighting the ticket so his insurance company wont claim liability until after he loses. Since that will most likely take 2 months I just filed through my insurance company. Since I dont pay the for rental car insurance, I will have to pay for it myself and then try to sue the other insurance company for the cost. So it looks like I'm on foot for the next few weeks, its just good thing all my friends love driving their cars.

I had the car towed down to Alpine yesterday afternoon finally. Now its gonna take a week to get parts and then about 90 hours labor.

Another thing is that since I filed through my insurance company, they will not cover the loss of resale value on my car. So after the jackass loses in court, I will have to sue the other insurance company for that as well. I guess its a good thing my sister is a lawyer, otherwise it would be more trouble than its worth to sue the shit out of nationwide insurance.

Anyway, hopefully it doesnt take a month to get my car back so I'll have time to replace the clutch/flywheel before the racing school. If not, I guess I'll be in the pit crew sniffing glue or something.
