Alright guys (and gals if there are any),

Let me see...where do I start with my car.....well let me tell you guys the problem first. My engine runs very rough!!! At first I thought it was my exhaust that was the problem cuz when the engine is on and if you look at the exhaust....you can see it shaking back and forth (noticeably)....once I pop the hood the problem was solved about my exhaust....it was my engine that is shaking that is making the exhaust shake back and forth. Next thing....I bring it in for a smog check....FAILED!!!!!! My engine is misfiring for some reason (which is causing the shaking of the engine and for it to fail smog). Now my car is in the shop right now (for 5 weeks already!!! and the problem is still not fixed). Let me tell you what the shop did already.....change sparkplugs, change my tensioners (sp?), change o2 sensor, change all my intake gaskets (where the manifold is at). They done a leak down test and compression test and everythign seems to be good. Is there anyone else here with a 95 M3 that had this similar problem?!?!?! I mean my car runs fine (meaning when I race it I still beats cars taht it is suppose to beat). It's jsut the vibration that is making me fail smog and run a little rough at idle. Please....I NEED ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!!! QUICK AND FAST!!!

Thanks,
Alan

You need a new mechanic.

Sounds like Camshaft sensor or one or more coils not working right. What do your plugs look like? Are you running a euro HFM? It could be screwed up or your software could be no good. Start there, it's electrical unless you bent some valves.

It is also likely to be a torn boot between the HFM and the throttle body. But seriously, any code reader should point you right at it. You need to find a mechanic that knows what they are doing. 5 weeks!?! Good grief!

Go to the bonnevillemotorworks.com site and follow the instructions to get the codes. That'll be a good start. Sounds like either electrical or Jim's idea about a boot leak..>Could be a vacuum leak also, but that isn't a normal type of problem

yea...the 95 has an OBD I computer so there is no way to get codes. I mean even the BMW dealership looked at my car (the mechanic brought it there) and are still puzzled.

Just follow the instructions. I check mine on a regular basis. Easy to do. Which dealer did you go to. They aren't always all that smart. Check the hoses to the HFM, etc. I have an extra stock HFM that you can try if all else fails.

I think I know the fix!!!!
i just got done reading my old invoices from the dealer and it has a emission recall campaign 99E-A01- faulty crankshaft sensor,E36, E39,Z3 models W/M52 or S52 eng & certain prod. dates.

parts replaced under warranty:
8-cable strap
crankshaft pos/rpm
O ring
Harness

I hope this helps! I might be completely wrong but i think someone mentioned something about this....
