Sorry for the delay. Once again, full credit goes to Trepan and his hosting abilities. Thanks! :D

There are two videos, an exhaust sampler, and the other, a little smoke show.

This follows the '99 540 vs. '02 540 Kill Story. ENJOY! :D

By the way, the exhaust you are hearing is an Eisenmann quad-tip race application, free-flowing without cats and a resonator. :alright

Kevin's car is very nice and those video's don't do justice as far as how good his exhaust sounds. His car is very fast also, I would say he is on par with a stock M5. Him and I run it all the time and even though I beat him every time ;) it is only by small amounts (nothing like how much I pull on E46 M3's ;) ) We need to get a video of your car driving by.

I'm glad to hear that! With regards to your trackpipe, I think you still have a lot of options left open for you. Any good exhaust shop can make anything happen. Even if you have to end up paying them in cash and behind the building for doing an illegal service on your car, such as, taking the cats off like I did, you should be money. :devillook

SlammedE30, JRK, & empower, thanks for the all the kind words! For a short time, I was considering putting the resonator back on, but a buddy of mine drove my car, and I drove his, just so I could hear it through the gears. That and your helpful comments have inclined me to keep it the way it is.

The neighbors may have an alternate opinion, however. :D

Sounds awesome. I'm currently looking at a 98 540i Sport 6spd...I think I'm going to bite the bullet on this puppy. She's a beauty.

Just wondering, what mods do you have done to your car? Thanks...

Here are the mods...some are performance, and some are not. I beleive that some of them are a must if and when you do get your '98 540i/6. Sometimes I surprise myself with all the stuff thrown into the car. Makes me wonder why I didn't just by an M5. Haha.

Thanks man! You got a hell of a machine yourself there. :D

what kind of f/w did you go with?

Coming on recommendation, I went with the lightweight flywheel setup from JB Racing. (www.jbracing.com) As far as I know, they are the one aftermarket company that lightens the V8 flywheels down to just 13lbs. versus 40lbs. stock, without compromise. They make applications for other BMWs as well, and have been the sole supplier for companies like AA, UUC, and others.

There is a slight chatter that arises from such a lightweight setup, but it's indeed worth the tolerance. If you have an exhasut like mine, it drowns it out very well. :D

same f/w i am running. i am not aware of any other company that makes a f/w for the 540's either. chatter doesn't bother me at all.

Man ..your car sound awesome! If you ever get a challenge at the lights, I think the other car would change his mind after hearing your car. Does the Eisenmann system comes with headers? or is it just a cat back system? I wonder what you car sounds like with Super Sprint headers. A friend of mine installed the Super Sprint headers on his 01 540 ..and the first thing that came to my mine when I heard it is NASCAR!

VandyS4 - THANKS man! Judging by your name, you're a vols fan. Well, maybe we'll have a shot at you guys this year. Haha. See my tag in the video to see who I root for. :D Sweet car by the way. Biturbos kick ass.

Sweet Sounds....

I was also considering removing the cats on my E38 7....

Do you get any check engine lights?'

I think I will remove the resonators first, since the car is still equiped with the Auto trans...

As soon as that auto-trans dies, I will opt for the Getrag 6 speed.....

Sweet sounding beast!

MJFX328 - :laugh That is too funny.

namike - Thanks for the compliment! I haven't had it on the dyno yet, but I am planning on it quite soon. I promise I will post a copy of the dyno sheet.

Greco540 - Hey Greco. Actually, retrofitting the M5 cluster will simply make the temperature lights match up to your car's current redline. They do not fluctuate like they do on the M5. For instance, on my car, the last two bottom LEDs are always on, indicating my redline. Before I had installed Dinan software, there were 3 LEDs on. After I installed the software, the limiter was increased, and only 2 came on. I thought about installing the M5 temp sender, but just thought it would be a waste of time and money, just to see some more lights. :D

ELIBEEMER - THANKS ELI! I say get yourself to a muffler shop PRONTO! I think that BMW V8ers don't know what their car can REALLY sound like, which was my impression before I went on my little experiment. As for the Check Engine lights, there is a high possibility that you will set it off. But there is nothing to worry about. There are a total of 4 O2 sensors surrounding your main cats. Two before, which are responsible for adjusting air/fuel ratios, and two after, checking to see if you're being nice to the ozone. If you can bear seeing the Check Engine light, I say do it. You still have precats so you won't loose too much backpressure. Let me know what you end up doing. :D

No one makes an O2 simulator to plug into the rear 02 sensors if you cut the catalyst out? Or can this be taken care of in software changes?

A lot of people say that without cats, the check engine light will activate, thus throwing the car into "limp mode". Not the case with or without the O2 simulators. I haven't noticed anything but improvement without the cats. Just make sure to cut the engine off in the event that you are pulled over. Cops will smell the extremely potent exhaust gases, and before you know it, they're snooping around underneath your car.

No smog nazi where I am from :D

The 2ndary O2 sensors will not cause the car to go into limp mode. The primaries will, since they car will use those for cruise situations to correct the A/F ratio, cause the car to go limp. It will not totally disable the car, just cause it run rich at idle and cruise because of the computer dumping in tons of fuel due to the O2 sensor failing. However, like I said, not a problem on the 2ndary sensors.

Edit: And back on topic, do you remember what size exhaust pipe the mufffler shop used to bypass the catalysts?

Going back to your mod list, did you swap the diff from a 540 sport auto, because they were the only 540's to receive the 3.15 open diff. No 6-speed ever received the 3.15.

Also for the cluster, did you get a oil pressure sensor for hte unit where we normally have fuel consumption?

Nice car! BTW, I am also running catless, and my check engine light does light up. I cover it up with a small picture of my 1 year old :)

The previous owner had the check engine light bulb pulled out, to stop the annoying light. I had the cluster replaced due to faulty pixels, so now I have the CEL light on. I have found a guy in town who says he's willing to pull the bulb for me-even though it's not legal.
