Hey guys, I'm looking to go pick up a new radar detector in the next few days and was hoping you guys had any input as to which I should get?
Any information on options/features that come with the specific model would be great! Thanks for the help!

Save 250 more and get the V1.

the only ones that are worth a damn are the Passport 8500 and the V1... save more money...

You are better off driving the limit than using a $150 detector.

true about getting one thats reputable. i have a question, is the "stealth one" good? its a valentine one that goes inside the dash somewhere and displays on your OBC i think. its so cops dont trip on u for having it. is this worth it?

No matter where you hide the V1 display, the unit itself still needs a clear shot of the front and back.

In Texas it's totally legal to have a radar detector, and the cops didn't say anything about mine when i got pulled over (i was retarded, and my detector was actually warning me). The stealth v1 is just really cool, but also really expensive, over a grand, but if I had the money I'd definately go for it.

Radar detectors may be legal, but a cop doesn't appreciate seeing one. If I were pulled over, I would take it down. haven't had to yet.

I review and sell radar detectors and other mobile electronics for a living and the best radar detector out there right now is the Escort Passport 8500 X50. If you thought the 8500 was good, the X50 has 40% better range and can detect the new "POP" technology which is a Ka band (sometimes K) which comes on and off in about 1/15 second. By law, they are not allowed to go on this reading alone therefore you have time to act before you get clocked with a solid Ka or K band. The X50 and another detector made by Bel are currently the only 2 that detect POP worth anything. There is a Cobra which is advertised to detect POP but, it missed many POP readings in the tests and also gave many false alarms; if you want to waste money give it to me, not Cobra. The V1's are excellent no doubt but the X50 has POP detection and better range. The V1 can tell you where the radar is coming from which is nice, but if theres any radar reading at all aren't you going to slow down anyways? Also, agreeing with previous posts, buying a detector for $150 isn't worth it, seriously.

Actually, the arrows help track false alarms. With any other detector I would be spinning my head anyway. I'm not really worried about the POP right now, as its fairly new and most municipalities around here will stick with the standard guns they have.
Why hasn't any one else put some sort of directional arrow?

Besides, didn't they prove that POP wasn't accurate. Something about the warm up time required between standby and active caused huge variances in the read speed? Isn't there a disclaimer in the BEE III model that states that it's for non-evidential purposes?

It cannot be used as evidence because a laser cannot properly be shot in that amount of time. Basicly its another gimmick that won't work. yet.

there is no such thing as an accurate cheap radar detector unfortunately
