So I'm cruising to my summer class(almost over!) and merging onto the route 10 I have to take to school. This route 10 is VERY open and has a soft, smooth road 3 lanes wide, but there are cops, 90% of the time on the weekend.

So I'm getting onto the on ramp and I notice this Steel Gray colored GTi coming down the route 10 already with speed, probably 65-70mph. I'm in 2nd gear about 30mph and accelerating normally to get to speed. He gets over to the right lane so that I can merge. I notice the badges were off and this kid had a damn nice looking GTi. I cruise until about 65mph and stay about car back and I notice he's looking in his mirror for me to get next to him, but I check the car first to see what I'm getting into...nice body kit, not too ricer, not too subtle either, exhaust, appeared to be 18-19'' riims, tint, non-stock side mirros. Definitely props to the guy, very nicely done car.

So we go on route 10 for almost a mile, then he gets in front me about 5-6 cars up and basically decides to LET OFF(probably because I wasn't instigating anything and he was getting frustrated :evil2 ) so he drops speed to about 40mph and I get to the middle lane and lay down on it somewhat in 5th and get past him with speed so he could hear my HIOP, track pipe, exhaust and intake in unison, most intoxicating sound you'll ever hear:D

So he switches over to my lane then the fast lane and gets about a 1/2 car up, it's on! I revmatch @80mph....wait...WHAT THE???!?!?! He goes WOT while I'm downshifting into 4th gear and he's a little over a car up on me. HELLLLLL NO. I nail 4th gear and he absolutely freezes in place. By the end of 4th, I get a nice 2 car lead. I shift into 5th and I think he left off or give up. So basically pulled 3 cars on him to about 130mph since he was up on me and the JUMP!!!!!!!!!

He gets next to me and waves...luckily, we pull out of the same exit and get to chat at the first light, my favorite part:

Him: "Damn. That thing pulls like a f'ing train, man!"

Me: "It's alright, I need to be faster..."

Him: "Sh**, I'd be happy with that...I have so much money into this thing."

Me: "What do you have done?"

Him: "Intake, headers, gutted cats, exhaust, chip, pullies, upgraded cams, throttle body and a fuel management device."

Me: "Nice...I'm pretty modded, too, though."

Him: "That's awesome, man. You should race my buddy in his E46 M3. That should be a close race..."

Me: " Well, you know where to find me..."

I gave him a thumbs up and pulled my window and we went out seperate ways. Nice guy, very nice looking car.

I gotta race his friend...my one challenge I definitely want to take is the E46 M3.

Maybe by the time that happens, the blower and cams will be on :devillook

He won't know what hit him...:)

Any GTi guys wanna chip in here? What is a car with those mods capable of 1/4 mile times? low-mid 14s? traps? Thanks all,,,

Never really see modded VR6's, mostly 1.8T's are raping cars left and right.

thats what i like to hear! :buttrock

just be careful messing with VR6's around here. we are in very close proximity to EIP tuning and they have turned out some pretty mean turbos. i rode in the white one featured on their website and it was obnoxiously fast.

It's no 1.8T though :stickoutt

Armo95 why did you drop down to 4th at 80 mph, you should drop into 3rd at 80 mph, 3rd tops out 97 mph, much better. Good kill :alright

About how fast are 1999.5 A4's 1.8T 5-spd w/ a APR chip? Like 1/4 mile?

Those mods listed aren't huge power adders. I mean, the cams are nice but no cat really doesn't make ahuge difference until you're turbo'd (then he's GONE).
So, he's gotta still be under the 200hp mark..

What kind of mods does your car have (in non-bmw terms cause I'm not down with the bimmer acronyms...:)).

And btw, I've heard of all sorts of VR6's (mk3's) breaking the 14 barrier (if I remember correctly) with those types of mods but I think it's more the driver there...and *other* factors.

Exactly. I haven't done any calculations, but, I think 80mph it out of 3rd gear, so I was safe and 4th gear was enough to leave him pretty hard.

not that fast...14.5/95mph at best. A4's are dogs until you put on a bigger turbo. The weight kills those cars. The S4 is a much different story.

As for GTI VR6's, with all bolt ons they will not break the 200whp barrier, closer to 180-90's. European car also dynoed a s/c Corrado at 225 ish.

S-L-O-W in the 1/4. More fun with the chip...but still slow in a straigh line.

I've also got a friend out in MD (Millersville, where ever that is) that has a turbo VR6 GTI. Hard to miss him, it's red with most of his front bumper hacked off so the intercooler will fit. You don't want to tangle with him unless you are running some serious mods (like the FI you're planning). His main limiting factor os traction....even with a Quaife. EIP aren't the only turbo VR6 players out your way.

But nice kill none the less. VR6 motors aren't really anything to laugh at, esp if some tuning has been done. They more the e36 325is killers then M3 killers, stock vs stock though. But since he was modded I suppose he HAD to give it a shot with you. Too bad it was more than he could chew!

Just for the record, the guy you ran put on some mods that don't help. The header, the throttle body and the fuel management (this is neglagible with the light mods on the car) really are a waste of money.

As for the Raddo in EC, I get P.O.'d every time I see its "progress". The mod route they took on it is something out of th mid 90's. There are much more efficient mods out now. For instance, the intake has been bettered by the Turn2 CAI and the Kent 264 cams are not that agressive. Aside from that, they are not great for FI. I bet if they would have gone the DSR 256 route they would have seen similar power NA and seen more once the SC was installed.

And for the money spent on the VF package, some smart shopping could have gotten about 200 at the wheels NA, vs the 216 from the initial stage one. Yeah, I know its less, but its much more impressive. Besides all that, there are SC companies whose stage one puts out numbers like VF's stage 2 and 3.

And that ridiculous Zender wing needs to go...

About that EC Corrado... while they call the 264 cams aggressive, I know people who run 288's on the street. While 264 really opens up the top end of that engine, they really should've gone all out.

Keep an eye out for the vr6 turbo's... I can drop most every lightly-modded vr6, but the turbo's pull like no-one's business
