View Full Version : E36 332is vs E36 M3

Now I'm usually a fast driver and I usually like to stay well ahead of the pack and yesterday was no different then any other day.

Northfield ave around 4pm turning onto the road I wind out the first two gears as usual and settle into 4th at about 45 mph behind a guy in a black E36 M3 (tint/silver ssr comps/some ricey sounding exhaust).

I hear him roll into the throttle guessing that he doesn't like seeing a fellow bimmer head in his rear view. Apparantly he rolls deep into the throttle as his exhuast just screams. 45, 55, 65, 75....not bad, not bad at all but the fun has only begun. :evil2

I'm at 3/4 throttle keeping pass with him when I just get the urge to piss him off. Already in fourth I just floor it and the 332is just starts devouring the real estate between him and I. I pull into the right lane (we were both in the left) and shift into 5th (yes, I redlined 4th as we were both hauling ass) and I don't inch by him, I briskly run by him in 5th still pulling.

I pull about 2-3 cars on him and then shut it down (running out of room) and pull onto the far left lane and the driver of the black M3 stops about 1 car behind me to my right. Embarrased? Scared? I have no idea...but I would have loved to chat with him and tell him how much I liked his wheels (gotta love the silver ssr comps!:D) but he refused to pull up. :(

I couldn't tell you what mods he had on the car aside from the light weight wheels and exhaust but from the slaughter he was dealt, I can't say it was a fair run but he did have the jump on me since he was ahead and he nailed the throttle first.

Either way, it was fun :redspot

not too much really, just the basics.

go faster mods that I can remember are:

Rogue flywheel & clutch
pulleys
3.38 LSD rear
Conforti CAI
HIOP Headers
AA Crack Pipe
Rogue DMS
Plasma Coils
ASC+T Delete

I'm sure there are others that I can't recall at the moment but all in all, it makes for a fun car.

my M50 manifold gets installed in about 3 hours, that'll just add to the fun. http://www.rsiwerks.com/evil.gif

Dave, you can take it for a spin when you see me. :)

The car has more stickerzzzz on it now, and I don't drive it much anymore. :( But I still put around every once in a while. I'll run with my daily driver though... (it's red with flames on it. :devillook: )

now that could be dangerous - I'll need a few months before I even begin to mess with something in that class. :devillook

John, I can't find a link to your site with the M50 manifold conversion. My dealer is holding the 6 M50 output gaskets for me and I've got 1 M50 throttle body gasket - what else do I need?

*edit- aside from the hoses and fittings that I'd try and source from ACE hardware.

Thanks

Use these along with the Midnightautoworks site and you're good to go:

those flames look really good, I don't blame her for keeping them. it keeps the car from looking generic as many other corvette owners just keep their cars bone stock.

thanks for the link! I'm already on the midnight site but as you know - the more info, the better and it's nice to be able to converse with you directly via this forum if I get stuck.

I'll report back later today/tomorrow with my results, it should be fun. :redspot

john@team-bar.com I'll be around all day today and tonight email me if you want my cell #

I can tell you that I ended up using the 2xmale hose connectors and ground down the ridges and inserted them into the hoses so that they wouldn't collapse. And make sure you figure out a way to hard mount the diptick tube. You can pull the tube right out of the block when checking the oil. I welded an L-bracket to the lower-rear manifold mount and the dipstick bolts right to it.

Ron-

Tell me you still have your 323is badge on it! That would be funny as hell if the guy in the M3 sees a "323is" blowing his doors off. :biglaughb

my 323is badge is sitting right here on my desk but the humor in that and the look on the other driver's face would have been priceless.

I have one of these on my rear deck now, nice and simple. :D

it's good to be back, better then having to dodge Zebra in the road. :D

I ran a 3.91 (open) before the 3.38 LSD and it was indeed fun. I haven't had any other gears in my car so I can't give a back to back comparison on other gears in my own car but the 3.91 was very quick and topped out at 127mph. I have driven cars with 3.23 and 3.15 LSDs and the 3.38 is certainly the best bang for the buck in all aspects. truely a poor man's supercharger.

the one in my car ran me $650, it's my second 3.38. The first one cost me just under $700 but it wasn't mint.

I thought you still had a 323's badge

What kind of ricey exhaust did the M3 have?

themadhatter
06-27-2004, 01:30 AM
nah, the car has been debadged for awhile now, I just had the ROGUE badge installed recently - maybe last week?

the M3's exhaust sounded and looked like a universal exhaust - hence the idea that it was ricey. who adds a universal to an M3?
