......Oy.....today was a long day of driving......Fortunately, it was also a day of racing :) . After driving a few hours back and forth to have my car inspected, I was talking to a friend of mine on the side of the road. Right before my friend pulls out to head home, a new Crossfire goes flying by at a pretty good clip. This is two lane country roads with plenty of curves and I thought ".........whoaa cool car! "
As I pulled out, I figured I might as well catch up to him to get another look at his car. It took me about 3 miles of cruising at a pretty fast pace to catch up to him, where I found him caught behind a crawling slow car. Right after the spot where I found him, there is a short uphill where you can do a quick pass and we both got by Mr Putter.
He immediately got on it in the first wide left sweeper and it was on. He was wringing that thing out like Hulk Hogan twisting the last few water droplets from his wrestling leotards and the corners were flying by like so much space crap when the Millenium Falcon finally hits warp drive . At first I thought "pretty cool for a tourist to be hammering his car like this.." but then he turned up the road towards my house (not a through road) and I knew he was local. From here it is about 4 miles to my turn off.
We did the perfunctory courteous 30 mph throught he high-driveway-density zone, but once out of it, we were back on it. I can say that was a very respectable car! It didnt look out of sorts at all in some very fast corners and I was pulling a bit on the straights, but not drastically. The car is no slouch!
I had no real trouble sticking with him though, since I also know the road really well and my car is feeling nice and harmonized today. After about 4 or so miles of scrubbed tires and smoking brakes, he passed my turnoff and I made the turn off (kind of slow to see if he would come down to chat). he flashed brake lights, so I rolled back up and we talked.
What a kooky old dude!! He was super cool and looked like some kind of rock-a-billy outlaw partier dude. Probably mid fifties with the flamed cap, bad-boy shades and husky voice that says "bar life been vedy vedy good to ME!".
Anyhow, he was friendly and seemed as surprised that I kept on him as I was that his car put up such a good show.
So, I guess I wont knock those cars any more! maybe Mercedes has had some good influence here (?).
My car is a 1990 525i with 322whp S52/Schrick/Vortech, Brembo brakes and complete suspension. No M3 but pretty well setup for a family hauler. It was a blast! :redspot
