I don't know why you guys call Andy POOR. I would call him RICH. Let's look at the facts.

1) He has an E46 M3. This car costs over $50,000, can do 0-60 in...

Actually, it's a 325, but...
Oh... :(

2) He has an Alex Zanardi Limited Edition Honda NSX. This car is extremely rare...

Actually, it's a Prelude, but it does have 4WS and...
Oh... :(

3) He has a Toyota Land Cruiser that he drives every day. With three cars, he must be rich!!!1!

Actually I find expensive SUVs to be nothing more than gratuitious displays of consumption and so I drive an economical Tacoma which...
Oh... :(

Hope this clears it up. Andy is RICH.

Only two years.

I have actually given up on trying to pick up the teenage girls since I turned 26... thought maybe it was pushing it a bit. Anyway, I never had much luck. I tried hanging out in the food court and offering them candy and ice cream when they were eating, but I guess they don't like sweets because they always started yelling for security. Bygones.

Maybe I should change my stratee-gery and buy up a bunch of gift certificates to "Forever 21" and "Aeropostale" and "Wet Seal" and see if that works... :dunno:

OK...i think you've got your strategy all wrong...teenage girls don't want
candy and ice cream, you've figured this much out. and in columbia, all the
teenage girl's parent's LOVE them and buy them everything they need...so
the gift certificates aren't doing you any good either...

here's what you should do...borrow Andy's Prelude (teenage girls LOVE
RICE)...and get the newest "tyte" hip hop artists album...like lil flip or lil
jon...you know...one of the "lil"s...blast that shyt w/ the windows down (but
not all the way cause you gotsta floss the tint)...and if when you turn the
bass up real loud, the car doesn't buzz, that might be a problem...so, loosen
some stuff up for that authentic bass buzz...they should come running!!

if that doesn't work...get a skateboard and bleach your hair.

yeah, I don't have a problem with the jetta, other than the fact that they say burning a quart of oil every thousand miles is normal for the 2.slow and their suspect history with electrical systems.

we looked at the sentra, corolla, jetta 2.0, impreza RS, and civic EX for my sister 2 years ago when she needed a car. I would have chosen the RS out of the group, but she chose the civic, and I liked it much better than the 2.0 jetta. Add the 1.8T, WRX, SER-V and civic Si to the mix (an make them all manuals) and the plot thickens.

I thought so too at first. If you look at the picture of the front end, you can see that the front suspension was completely torn out of the car.

http://members.roadfly.org/jkuper/omni2.jpg

My guess is that the strut was laying on the ground next to the car once everything came to a stop. The emergency crew probably threw it in the front seat while cleaning up.

yea...people do say that about the 2.0...but i never really had that much a
problem...i guess w/in the first 10k or so miles it might have been low about
1/4-1/2 a quart...but never anything drastic...

Update.

So my best attempts to pick up the teenage hotties were thwarted again. I am not sure where to go from here. When we last left our hero (where "our hero" is me) he was going to stake out the Columbia mall with a pack of Marlboro lights and a case of bud light and see if he could indeed pick up a teen skank.

Right. Well apparently it's against mall regulations to posess alcololic beverages on mall property. Fcukers. Nobody told me that shyt. So now that mall security confiscated my beverages I'm left shooting from one barrel if you know what I mean (think you do) and frankly, I don't think a pack of marb lights is gonna do it all by itself. I mean, I'm 26, not that attractive, can't skateboard, and can't name any of the bands to be on "TRL" in the past year. I realize I really have no shot.

I try anyway.

I strategically position myself at the front entrance to the mall, pack of Marlboro lights in hand, BMW keychain hanging out of pocket. I'm dressed in my best guess of what a teenage girl would go for in a guy - some kinda faded, baggy dark blue jeans and a "Von Dutch" t-shirt. I'm wearing a slightly dingy "Bud Light" visor (hey, better than nothing) to try to give me that edgy Frat-boy look. My hair is disheveled. I tried to make it look as mop-like as possible, as is the style (you've seen "The OC" right?) but with only about 1/2" of hair, it's tough. I used lots of product. I try to look as if I don't give a fcuk. It's not hard. I actually don't give a fcuk. I'm hanging out at a mall.

My initial foray didn't work too well. I tried being passive at first, just hanging out on one of the benches smoking a cigarette. I figured one of them would come up to ask me for one, and that would be my in. The first problem came when I realized that these chicks already had their own cigarettes, and so I was really of no use to them. Losing that beer is killing me. Bygones. Even the BMW keychain wasn't doing it. None of the girls got close enough to see it. I even tried hanging out RIGHT AT THE DOORS, smiling at the girls as they walked by. Nothing. Not even a nibble at the proverbial teat from these whooores. I need another strategy.

I get to thinking... maybe Emily was right. "Teenage skanks love rice!!"
I need a ricey car to hang out next to. Unfortunately, Andy is nowhere to be seen. I'm going to have to find a car and front like it's mine. Fortunately, being the Columbia mall, there is no shortage of ricey Hondas. I pick a nice white Si-R Civic model, sporting APC tails, a JDM cow-catcher front bumper (in primer), the eBay wing (angled upwards at about 15 degrees, of course), a monster Autometer tach (with shift light!) and orange-painted interior trim (the Krylon touch, I suspect). It's near the front, so it's perfect. I casually lean up against the front bumper and light up a marlboro. I don't smoke, so I'm feeling kinda sick at this point. However: in the name of science (and horniness) I press on.

After about five minutes, it works! An appropriately skanky chick comes up to me!

"Nice car. Can I have a cigarette?"

"Sure.." I say, and hold out the pack. she takes it.

"Can I give one to my friend? I'll be right back..." she says, pointing to a girl talking to a couple guys a short distance away. I nod, and she walks over to her with the pack. A short conversation ensues (I can't hear them... my head is spinning from the nicotine buzz commesurate with smoking half a pack of cigarettes in a half hour), a slight bit of laughter, and they start walking. I wait a short time for them to come back, but eventually give up. Maybe they forgot?

So now I have no smokes, no beer, no skanks and I've just been duped by a 16-year old girl.

Not sure where to go from here, I walk back to my car and head home.

Mission #1 is a failure. Please advise.

"Teenage skanks love rice!!"

doesn't really matter...i know my car is safe. i've seent he safety features
in action! the only thing i'm saying is:

A: i HATE hondas
B: having to drive one CONFIRMS the above statement
C: i feel unsafe in the civic i am driving because the seat has an unhealthy
wobble of over an inch...everytime i hit the gas, clunk! everytime i hit the
brakes, clunk! not safe imo. end of story, it's my opinion.
D: the thing has NO power at all! it can't get out of it's OWN way!!
E: it's black.
F: it stinks like 100 other people's B.O. all mixed up into one, and thrown in
the microwave for 20 minutes on high.

good enough??

hating hondas is an opinion...

edit: George- i think it's an 01 or 02...

Okay. Let's be realistic here. You're driving a crappy loaner car that obviously has been abused and not properly maintained. The smell and condition of the car is not the fault of the manufacturer - it's the fault of the dealership that gave you the loaner. I would take issue with them, not with Honda. You can't blame Honda for a dealer that doesn't know how to maintain its cars, and one that doesn't care enough about customer service to give them a decent loaner in decent condition.

And if you think driving an automatic Civic is bad, try driving an automatic .. well, ANYthing that's an economy car. 2.0 Jetta / Golf included, Corolla included...

My girlfriend has a '02 1.8T jetta 5-speed- it's a great car, but it's already been much more trouble than my '89 civic ever was. It only has 35,000 miles and here's what has gone wrong with it:

1) The rear emergency trunk release handle doesn't work. Yes, we tried it. The dealer "fixed" it. It still doesn't release the trunk. We gave up after two trips to the dealer.

2) The trim panel near the sunroof FELL OFF. Fixed under warranty.

3) The rear brakes seized up at 35,000 miles. The dealer blamed "road grime," cleaned the rear calipers, replaced the rear brakes and charged her $500 (Warranty on braking system is 12k miles / 1 year). She drives about 100 highway miles a day. Road grime? Give me a break.

Still, the car is fun to drive, and we both like it overall.

A friend's 2.0 Jetta ('03) 5-speed has had about a billion niggling problems that are making her sell the car. The key fob works sporadically (dealer can't figure out how to fix), the power windows stopped working (warranty), same trunk release issue, the driver's headlight keeps burning out, etc etc.

My friend has a '93 Civic that he bought from another his friend. When he bought it the car had ~120k miles on it and the oil was NEVER CHANGED! It still ran (albeit making a clacking noise :embarrasm ) and he drove it around until he swapped motors. The old motor had oil caked inside it, hard as a rock, but the damn thing still ran. Now that's reliable!

Now I see you guys were discussing interior/body issues but it's still a cool story. :stickoutt

my car has 49500 miles on it.

all i've been to the dealer for is:

-coil recall (didn't need them, just wanted to stop recieving the letter
about the recall)

-clutch slave and master cylinders(clutch pedal would drop from time to
time...only happened once, diagnosed and ordered parts over the
phone...fixed in one day)

-having trans rebuilt now before it goes out of warranty for bad synchros...

-also having both window reg's replaced (not broken yet)

-and the rear center seatbelt won't retract since i took the backseat out @
one point...that'll be replaced too...

otherwise, the car has been GREAT! my brakes are still pretty much brand
new (i don't use them a whole lot)...and everything else is PERFECT as fas as
i'm concerned...like i said, i LOVE my car!

A friend's 2.0 Jetta ('03) 5-speed has had about a billion niggling problems that are making her sell the car. John V

key fob not working and trunk release are probably the driver's door lock
actuator...what dealer is she going to?? they suck if they can't fix that!!!

driver's headlight is a rpya PAIN IN THE ASS to replace...it's probably been
done halfassedly and needs to be done once properly. i just replaced my
driver's bulb 2 weeks ago @ 48xxx...and only had to replace it once on my
'00 Golf over 70xxx of driving ;)

Just wondering. What is it exactly that makes you hate Hondas? They are some great ones out there- the old CRX Si, S2000, NSX, IT-R and RSX Type S.

The Japanese make some great cars out there-there's just there has been a stigma attached because of "rice" culture. But most enthusiasts recognize many of the cars from Japan.

That's a pretty big issue with a car. :laugh

That's a pretty long list of issues with your car for it being so new.

Post back when your car has over 100K miles. Let's see how long that list grows. After 171K miles, my car has had two issues besides normal maintanence. One with the 4 wheel steering (fixed) and the AC.

It's not the fact that people say they hate Hondas...it's the fact that people hate other car companies to being with. That's just rediculous.

The only reason I am on this board and not s2ki (the S2000 forum) is that I am 6' tall and I don't fit in the S2000. If I had unlimited resources, I'd have an S2k outfitted for B-stock class, a trailer and a truck to tow it with. They are incredibly fun to drive. I just can't sit in one for more than 15 minutes without back pain. (Thankfully, an autox run is less than a minute!)

Don't get me wrong, I really like the M3. It just wasn't my first choice. AND... maintenance on my M3 is costing me more than double what it costs me to keep my Accord on the road.

the RICE has made me hate them.

there are some nice older hondas, and i do like the CRX to name one. but like
i said, this whole fart can, big wing, graphics, etc. shit has gotten me to

aaaand...Andy- i guess the size of car problems are measured by how much
of an inconvinience they end up being. considering i am a generally even
keeled person who doesn't sweat the small stuff, i don't think car problems
will ever weigh on me enough to cry and whine about them like some VW
owners insist on doing. the car is still under warranty, and the synchros
aren't gone, they are just in need of adjustment/replacement. i fig'd i could
just forget about it and leave them alone, but also, i fig'd i'd rather just get it
done now so that if in the future they do go bad, i will not have to incur any
cost to repair/replace them. ya see, now not only am i getting the car fixed
under warranty w/in 500 miles of the end of my warranty, but all the parts
that get put on will be covered under parts warranty. so..even LESS worry
for me!

to each his own...i hate RICE.

Ohhh, an EX is easier to swap a new motor into. It's pretty much a direct swap in.

It will cost some money because you need to get a new tranny (your F series tranny gearing is too long...unless you want to be able to go 170mph :D), a new ECU, and H22 longblock.

Making an H23 VTEC hybrid is a little on the tough side. It involves taking an H23 bottomend from the 2.3 non VTEC H Series motor and mating an H22 VTEC head to it. Get a complete H22 head with intake manifold, H22 coolant line, H22 crank pulley (not really necessary), H22 water pump and timing belt, and might as well get 93-96 USDM H22 pistons while you are at it.

Or you could just buy a complete H22 swap for about $2500 shipped ( I hear the prices are coming down too) to you and call it a day. :dunno

So many choices, so much fun. :D

If you want to go into this further, PM me. :buttrock

Yikes!!!

I can't afford it. I just dropped $1800 into the M3 in the last two months. If I was planning to turn the Accord into a club racer, this would be a fun project. (But it would probably make me illegal in every class and racing series.) No, I'll leave the Accord alone for now. I need "old reliable" for a little while longer.

Thanks,

Scott

But if you can do all that, I think that makes you RICH, no matter what everybody else says :stickoutt

you should get an e36 m3.

Damn, that's a good idea! I knew this guy who had one for sale because he bought a Corvette, I should see if he still has it.

He probably just gave it to a homeless guy -- guys with corvettes are way RICH and don't ever like to waste their time selling stuff when they can just give it away.

I have an E36 M3 -- I will be RICH and give it to you if you feel like being RICH and giving me your corvette!

Mike, what about an Accord like Scott's?? Civics hvae high resale value. You are better off getting an Accord (gets good gas mileage too) and has more room for less.

If you need help looking at them, let me know. I will go with you.

See, now my friend (with the Civic) was telling me that the Accord motor (F22?) wasnt very good. Im not sure what he was basing it on but he said it was the least reliable of the Honda motors. I could use the extra room so I would be interested in an Accord as long as it's reliable.

In other news, this is my 1234 post, I feel giddy.

Hmmm, tell your friend he is an idiot an then smack him over the head with a shoe.

j/k

The F22 is a very reliable. In fact, it is the motor of choice to turbo. They are as good as any other Honda motors. If taken care of, they can last forever. There is a reason why Accords are known to last forever. They all(90-97) only came with some version of the F22 motor.

I had an Accord with the F22 (96 Accord LX) and the motor was fine. It is slow but it gets good gas mileage and doesn't require too much to keep it going.

I would seriously look for one. If I am not mistaken, the insurance is a little cheaper on them too. Main things to look for are leaky axles and rust.

JOHN V-don't give up. here's a little tip to help you out-go INSIDE the mall. Here's my best tip-get a bag from abercombie and fitch somehow and put clothes in it, girls will think your rich and like your young like them and are "hip to the game." The best way to catch a glimpse of underage girls half naked in skank clothes is to go to somewhere like "forver 21." I used to go in there following girls, sniffing whatever they had tried on. I quickly got banned from 3 malls withen a period of 96 hours. The trick is to go in there with a reason. Tell them your little sister has a bday and your buying a gift. Find a cheap piece of clothes and ask her for a size that is not on the rack. Ask her to go in back and find it. Congradulations-you just bought yourself 3 minutes of peeping time, perhaps 4 depending on how slow the girl that works there is. If your smooth enough and spend enough $$$ (5-8$) you may be able to score a date with the ho that works there, but if not your still on top!!!

Save the alchohol for when you really need it-getting them drunk in your parents basement (which you can call your "apartment") and taking advantage of them.

let me know next time you want to find sum hoez.
