You guys did such a great job of helping me pick out stuff for my car that I'm back! I've got the first half of the stuff for my M3 (the Klasse kit and lexol kits from autogeek). The rest (claymagic clay bar and sonus acrylic spritz) should be here later this week. This of course got me thinking - what would be some good stuff for my mom?

She of course has different priorities than I do. Her primary concern is protection of the cars paint. She loves her topaz blue 325i, but she's not the type to wash her car every week and wax it ever month or two. In fact, I'm not sure it's been waxed since she bought it new in late 2001. (I have taught her to avoid automatic car washes at least). So clearly she needs the longest lasting protection possible. The next priority is that it should be fairly easy to apply and maintain. I could do an initial application, but after that it's got to be extremely easy for her alone (i don't have time to be detailing her car). A distant last priority is that it should look good, since her car is not likely to actually be clean enough, often enough to show off the finish well.

To sum up, here are the priorities in order:

1. longest lasting protection possible
2. longest lasting protection possible
3. longest lasting protection possible
4. extremely easy to maintain
5. fairly easy to apply
(distant) 6th. should look decent

I would consider claying her car if it's going to make a difference in durability of the protection or if it's actually necessary, but otherwise I'll probably try to avoid it for now.

One thought i had was to get her going with a coat of Klasse AIO (since i have it already). AIO claims it protects right? :) Maybe a coat of SG on top of that as well if I've got time. Then order her own bottle of Sonus to spray on whenever she does manage to wash it.

The other thought I had was to go with Meguiar's NXT or something along those lines that I can buy locally so I don't use up my stash :devillook But I won't bother if it's not going to last as long, which is the impression I get based on posts from other forums.

Last thought I had was to take it somewhere to be detailed professionally and maybe they could do a better job initially (at least better than my slacker version), and then she could just maintain from there. Of course, finding a shop that's going to use long lasting protection (such as Klasse, Zaino, etc.) may not be all that easy.

Any other ideas guys?

Mike

1 x aio and 1 x sg will last 6 months. It should take you two hours to wash, aio, sg by hand.

AIO + SG still good to go without claying?

No not really. Prep is VERY important. But the fact of the matter is not everyone cares about doing all the steps. They just want something quick. If you want the best results, go the whole 9 yards. If you could care less, do less.

thanks david. i envision one of two possibilities - i use my mom's car as the guinea pig for the AIO + SG or i see how long it takes me to clay my car and then decide if i want to bother doing hers.

thanks for the info...leaning towards just AIO + SG the first time. it'll be more than enough for her i'm sure
