View Full Version : PCA Summit Event July 1 & 2 Still Open
Mad Dog 20/20 06-23-2004, 06:36 PM http://www.schattenbaum.org
A bunch of us went to the last PCA Schattenbaum event at Summit Pt. and it was awesome. Lots of seat time, great group of guys and affordable ($125), too. :buttrock
nick325xit 5spd 06-23-2004, 06:40 PM Hmm.
Tempting, tempting.
I'll have to give it some thought.

I had forgotten that I had already registered for this event at the same time I registered for the April event. Then, while surfing the site yesterday, I peeped the registration roll, and booyah . . . there's my name! Haha. :stickoutt
That would be great if you could roll. :alright Let me know if you need any help with the brake job. I have a pressure bleeder and other shit needed.
Garrett-
Do you have to join PCA to go to this? I am really temped. A good way to start off the long weekend...
aw man, i just realized i already took wednesday off to go see Spidey 2 !!!

No you do not need to be a PCA member. Check the site for exact details. IIRC, its DIRT CHEAP.
EDIT: I just checked, its like $125 per day, depending on your run group (instructor or not).

Cool. I'll fax it in tomorrow!

Jeff
Mad Dog 20/20 06-24-2004, 12:33 PM Greek, did you ever get my old Nero's from the shop?
The last Schattenbaum event was great. The guys were very cool and displayed proper track manners, for which I am a stickler :nono ;) Its the Potomac PCA that has gotten mixed reviews, not Schattenbaum PCA.
I know there has been a lot of banter lately about the dangers of tracking, etc. The dangers are real. Obviously, high speed circuit driving does present certain dangers. However, many of those dangers are at least partially within the driver's control. Different people have different priorities at the track. Some people want to demonstrate their superior skillz/car and pass as many cars as possible each session. Which is cool. Others just want to learn, have fun and get home with sound body and car. Which is also cool. The off-track excursions are usually, but not always, enjoyed by the former, and rarely by the latter. A lot of it is common sense. If you drive at 10/10th's, fail to pay attention to flag stations, enter corners only inches behind the car in front of you, refuse to give people passes, etc. then bad shit is more likiely to occur. Enough of that speech . . .
Jeff, sure I can show you. I have a pretty complete set of tools/jacks, an impact, etc., so it may be better for you to swing by my spot.
Its very easy to bleed/flush. You'll need 2 quarts of fluid (either super blue/gold or Motul 600).
Let me know.
GreekM3 06-24-2004, 12:37 PM no im calling them today about the tires, been sick for the past week :(
Garrett-
I assume you and Jeff are running Intermediate or Advanced? I signed up for novice so I can get an instructor. I'm still kinda shaken up by my spin at BeaveRun. But at least Summit is more familiar track.

Last time they were very flexible re run groups. Kinda pick what you feel comfortable with, grab an instructor, or not, it was up to you pretty much. We were all rolling solo last time. Made for a fun time. I have no idea what run group i'm registered for. They use different colors for different groups - I forget which color is which group.
GreekM3 06-24-2004, 12:52 PM do they really care if my windshield has a crack on the bottom of it where it does not affect my view at all?
George, are you doing both days??
Mad Dog 20/20 06-24-2004, 01:17 PM do they really care if my windshield has a crack on the bottom of it where it does not affect my view at all?
Doubtful. Besides, I'm sure if you were to develpo such a crack on your way to the track, they'd be undersyanding and let you run. :D
jed, if i can get into the novice group i will, this will be my first run in the e30 m3 so i don't want all these drivers on my ass as i get used to the car...

I use "the wise guy" for such emergency service. He makes house calls, does a fine job, etc. . . .
I'd post his number, as I'm sure he'd appreciate the biz, but I don't want to go down that road . . .
So PM me if you lack his digits.
NoSoup4U 06-24-2004, 02:02 PM I am in a dilemma, I would like to go, only for friday. However, I just installed my racing seats last night. Fixed back ... no roll bar yet. So, not sure if I should go or not. I would be in white group. Then again, $125 for a track day, damn ... so cheap ...
do they really care if my windshield has a crack on the bottom of it where it does not affect my view at all?
I'm going to take a grease pencil and circle it. Then I'll bring it to the attention of the inspector. :D

James-
I am only going to do Thursday because I can't really take 2 days off at the end of a week before a long holiday. Plus I am going to OC Friday. I talked to the guy and he said we can split it. I'll take Thurs and you can take Friday-you just need to send him your app. Call him first if you fax it so that he can turn on the fax machine.

How far is Beaverun ???
Took like 3 1/2-4 hours from Baltimore.

Would love to go! Unfortunately, my old lady does not share my excitement for rolling-out to Pitt to gawk at bimmers for 4th of July weekend. And if I left her and went solo, I'd get no ass for weeks . . . Certainly can't have that.
Why did they schedule it for the 4th?! In Pitt no less!? A time/place where no hoes wanna go? Bad idea . . .
Whew! Got scheduled for a tech inspection at Induktion Motorsports up near Columbia!

Yeah I actually got in the Green group without an instructor but now the head of my department called an all-hands management meeting on thursday
My car is at Dan's now and if I can get it in time wednesday and blow this meeting off, i should be there, otherwise I will probably be there Friday only if they let me.

GreekM3 07-01-2004, 03:06 AM well i cant make it guys, after installing my new wheels and tires there was a loud clanking noise.......couldnt figure it out and i said f-ck it. :(
On a better note i now get to watch the Greece soccer game :D
George,
That stinks. So, right after you installed your wheels it started making that noise??
Hey, does anyone know, is there a "tech inspection" form or is it just this "safety inspection" form that owners can fill out ?
GreekM3 07-01-2004, 02:10 PM i think its just the safety inspection form-i think you need to get it filled out by a mechanic.
andy-thats exactly right
Hey is anyone going to this tomorrow ?

Nah dude, we had our fun today. :stickoutt
Actually I think Garrett is going back tomorrow. Too bad you didn't come out today-my friend brought his track prepped E30 M3.
jkuper 07-02-2004, 08:55 AM If anyone knows how to get in touch with LandShark today, have him call 770.631.6779 - Dan Law re: his suspension.
Mad Dog 20/20 07-02-2004, 07:44 PM Wow. Today was even better than yesterday. Weather was perfect. Even fewer students. Gary and Jeff showed-up. Jeff blew the head gasket on his e30 - sucks :( But otherwise, it was a great outing.
I finally began to gel with the car's new changes (big neg camber and R-Comps) and started to really hustle the car. I think my pressures were too high yesterday, or the tires were just too new. Plus, I was afraid that they would just "break-away" without warning, if pushed beyond their limits - you know how folks be talkin' about R-Comps . . . But anyway, I am a fan of them now (P Zero Corsa's). More grip than a street tire, but very similar break-away characteristics - very communicative and predictable. Nice rubber. :D

Sorry to hear that. :( That really sucks...
sunir 07-06-2004, 10:09 AM Jeff blew the head gasket on his e30
that's the way it goes man  ...I've blown it twice!! It'll be kinda expensive to replace (mostly labor) and you better hope the head is not cracked otherwise the cost goes up....
and a bit of advice...I would have someone who is real good do the work otherwise it will blow again... pick your shop wisely;)
Is that a common problem with E30 M3's??
Mad Dog 20/20 07-06-2004, 12:13 PM Turned out to be a false alarm! Jeff was a lil "over-protective" of his sled.
Turned out to be a false alarm! Jeff was a lil "over-protective" of his sled.
Well, that's why he should turn it into a show car! ;)
Whew! That's good. What happened to make him think that he did blew a headgasket?

Sunir-I know you know a lot about m3's so I want to ask you a question. When my car's temp guage is in the red after a session and I know I am overheating and am warping my head I should go back on the track to run another session, right? I just want to make sure, becuase I know you know a lot about stuff like this. Thanks bro

sunir 07-06-2004, 01:35 PM that's why now I bring my own private engine builder to the track on my staff of 3...cheif mechanic, massage therapist etc... :D :stickoutt
no seriously, if your in the red bring 'er on in...bleed the system again, you could just be having a stubborn air pocket (like what happened to me at Putnam 2 weeks ago...we thought we were out of the races, but it just turned out to be an air pocket)...
the key is if you spot oil and water mixing (check the oil from the pan or check the water in the reservior)...then you have issues with either a head gasket or cracked head...pull it onto the trailer and pack it on up at that point :( ...

George-
Bring me back a Greek/English dictionary. I was talking to this really pretty Greek girl on Sunday night and in a drunken stupor with my very few Greek words managed to say "hello a$$hole" 15 minutes into the conversation. Unimpressive. :(
Well apparently, my mechanic found nothing in the coolant...I could have swore I saw what looked like an oil slick in the reservoir tank but I must have been seeing things. my guy says the car is a-ok.. yeesh...i think this car has pushed me over the edge to where I am seeing things.
So I'll take it back out there...
Just as some feedback, the E30 M3 is truly a momentum car as its been described to me.....its so much more responsive and communicative than the E36, but it does lag the torque and power....like everytime i caught up to the P cars on the twisties I didn't have the power to overtake quickly...so I would lose them on 9-10 and down to Turn 1...
So thats a little frustrating. But definitely a fun fun car...and the gears are so close you have to be alot more attentive to shifting...my car kept bouncing off the redline cause I was forgetting to shift.
I'm thinking if there are any events in July I'll do one more then sit out August since its soo damn hot and get back in in Sept.

You could've been the guy taking the hit with "angry friend" (very similar to "bitchy friend") who was swarming trying to jeopardize the mission. Actually I called her out on that. I looked at her and said "You are the angry friend of the group, aren't you?" Pete and Mark were rolling and she sat there with her mouth open in shock then started laughing. She warmed up to me, but it would've been easier if you took the hit initially.
Ends up she lives in Ellicott City and hangs out in Rockville and Bethesda and knows the places we go to and knows the bartender at Clyde's also (Jed).
The girl I was hanging out with (same one from Sat night-I finally got to her on Sunday night at the end) lives only a couple miles from me.
You also would've been handy to take care of crutch girl. She was psycho.

Yeah, but this morning when I swapped back to my street rubber, I noticed that the driver's side Corsa's had chunked pretty good - more than my Nero's ever did (they never chunked). And the Corsa's were shaved and cycled by the Rack. They did not hold-up nearly as well as I would have expected. So, I doubt I'll get much better wear from these than I do from the MUCH cheaper Nero's. They felt great though . . .

I didn't get back to this thread 'cos I went to OC the whole weekend, just got back last night. overall, very nice and relaxing too especially after 2 straight hot track days. however, I had a little accident when I was riding a scooter at OC and hurt my right knee... man, it's not easy (and hurt!) to swapping tires and pads with a injuried knee....
Mad Dog 20/20 07-06-2004, 07:18 PM Jed - Yeah, I've considered the Victo's. They don't really have a good 18" size for me, though. I heard great things about the Corsa, and it came in a 255/35/18, so it sounded like the hot ticket. Pablo M. ran 225/40/18's on his stage 4 turbo M3 and loved the wear characteristics. Go figure? It may be my driving style, i don't know. I have a weird (I think fast  ) way of taking turn one (I don't fully track-out) that sometimes results in some "push" if done sloppily. I may need to play around w/ front pressures a lil more too. Plus, it was also DAMN hot out there on day 2 . . .
When these are gone, i might try a pilot Sport Comp in a 235/40/18.
Gary - HOT car. Too bad we NEVER met-up on the track . . . which is hard to imagine over the course of at least 8 sessions :eyecrazy: I wanted to see that sucker in action . . .

yeah, I was surprised too! and I couldn't find that black GT3 neither which I hope I could run behind him and do some filming too.
well, I'm sure we'll have more chances in the future. I'm going to the NJ chapter's CCA DE in Aug. too. (much much easier to get in than our NCC chapter!!)
