I thought with those you can remove the center pipes when not in use.

Greek, I would not let that stop you . . .
I wonder what kind of crash-test data goes into statements like those warning of back seat passengers in a roll bar equipped car. I'd suspect - zero. I think a lot of speculation and conjecture factors into a lot of statements like that, as well as a strong desire to err on the side of caution when it comes to safety. Which is obviously a good thing. And of course, a bar manufacturer/seller is going to warn against rear seated passengers - to eliminate ANY possible liability. That's a no-brainer. However, I don't think any significant added risk exists with a well-padded bar. Obviously, I could be wrong - but we're ALL just speculating - right?

How long has the Jeep CJ/Wrangler had a roll bar and a back seat . . .

If you pad the bars and the passengers are belted, how is any additional danger created vs. the OE set-up? First of all, I can't see one's skull coming in contact with the bar in an accident, as the bar's shape just does not come very close to a properly seated/belted passenger's head. And moreover, in an accident with sufficient force to deform the car/bar and/or throw passenengers heads into the bar, a skull bashing into a steel A, B or C-pillar, door frame, or steel roof is no happier than it would be bashing into a thickly padded steel roll bar tube. This is why side air bags/curtains exist in newer cars. I'd think the front seat occupants' heads have a MUCH greater liklihood of contacting the A pillar or roof/door frame in an accident, than a rear passenger's head contacting a roll bar - this is especially true for cars w/out steering wheel and/or passenger-side air bags.

I plan to get a bar, and tell muthafuggas to "watch their head" as they get in the back seat. :D

I could always do that. You do make a good point. I see myself getting rid of the backseat next year or so too. It would just be VERY important that ALL passangers are belted in.

James-whats your plan for install?

my plan for install? I thought of asking Eric or John D. to hook it up to their trucks and just yank? :dunno

I'll have someone professional install it ... like Jed! :stickoutt

Looks like a pretty easy DIY install. Yank the front seats, toss the bar in, drill a few holes, zinc-coat any bare metal, lay down some sealant and bolt-down that sucker. May have to use a few tools of persuasion on the bar - looks to be a tight fit at the side arm rest areas . . .

HMS suggests a different method of installing...

Something like hooking the car up to a truck through the trunk with tow straps. Then putting tension on the bar while pulling, and then jacking the car up and putting the rear on jack stands. Then bolting it in.

Don't quote me on the exact order, but it's something like that.

Of course it's probably the same people that think a roll bar is more dangerous then your head hitting the side window of the car will rolling...

My "suggested method of installing" was just a quick and dirty one based upon the owner's pics and post regarding a quick 2 hour install with no mention of a truck, tow straps, etc. Does HMs sell Kirk bars?

As I said before, any maker/retailer of a roll bar would be very wise to prohibit/warn against any and all possible hazards of roll bar use with rear passengers. It eliminates any possible liability in the event of an injury to a rear seat passenger from whatever source. I wonder what the liklihood of flipping one's passenger-laden M3 while cruising on the street is? Probably less than getting struck by lightening . . .

Yeah, I just checked. Apparently HMS does not sell the Kirk bar. Their "tractor-pull" method is not applicable here.

But thanks for the heads-up, John.
