View Full Version : Z3 2.8 vs. s2000
littlelee1 06-22-2004, 03:38 PM Was at a friend' house today, his mom has an S2000 and we were watching her house while she was on vacation. So we conclusivley decided to go race the Z vs the s2000. I thought I was going to get killed, but that just didn't happen.
I set up at 2.5k rpms and with our friend flagging we launched. Both of us chirpped a little and by the end of 1st i was ahead about a 1/4 of a car, at the end of 2nd gear he dropped back to about 1/2 a car, about the middle of third he was 3/4 the way back and just stayed there not pulling or falling behind. It's a stock s2000 w/ 45k miles on it.
But then again its all about driver even though we both had a pretty nice launch. Before you start bashing "i dont believe that u beat a s2000 etc." like everyone does, read my specs in sig...
slickav 06-22-2004, 03:45 PM I believe it :buttrock
You have some decent mods, hardly any weight, and plus the S2K is NOT an easy car to launch.
Nice kill:buttrock!
Way to represent for chick cars around the world :D

littlelee1 06-22-2004, 03:57 PM I'm gonna hi-jack my own thread,
Joe- what type of splitters/front bumper do you have on your car and where did you find them? Thanks man
The S2k driver is probably posting on s2ki.com about how he could've taken you in the twisties :D

I'd hope not! He lives 6 houses down and it's his mom's car! lol lol :stickoutt

M Roadster/Coupe front bumper cover and ACS splitters. I found the bumper cover used for $100, but in the end the little project cost quite a bit :(
littlelee1 06-22-2004, 04:13 PM Dang, great beginning price even though it sounds as though it got a little pricey there in the end. It looks really good, I've got a black Z also, how did you paint (or dye whatever) your kidneys to be black?

Nice! Black Z's are king :buttrock
But damn, you are just hijacking the hell out of your thread! Kidneys are really easy to do and only cost about $12 or so. Just take them off, sand them smooth, 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of flat black Rustoleum, sanding in between each coat and you're good to go

Ditto!!! Does he know that you have to rev over 6400rpm before you get all 4 values per cylinder working!!? ;)

Yep, if the dude didn't drop the clutch at 6K RPM or greater...he's going to get waxed in the S2000.
I have heard of people doing a high rpm clutch slip in the S2000 also; but I could never pull it off.
jwind 06-22-2004, 06:12 PM I remember back when the S2000 came out, one of the car mags did a test where they pulled off the line in the S2000 normally, but WOT, and then short-shifted every gear at like 5-6000 RPMS (can't remember the specifics) and the 0-60 on the car was something around 13 or 14 seconds driven that way.
Quiksilver7 06-22-2004, 06:17 PM haha yeah. There is one here that runs consistant 13.8 with his bone stock S2k... must be a good driver. He's very fast at the autocross also.

Take off in your M3 and shift at 65% of your rev range and see what your times look like.... I remember that statement when it was made in MT or C&D (can't remember) and it doesn't make any sense
Red Ribbon Army 06-22-2004, 09:32 PM Do you guys think s2k's are that fast, i'm just wondering because i always thought they were quick and i always see them in kill stories, but in (i think it was) Motor Trends ultimate comparisons the 3.0 Z4 0-60 was .2 seconds quicker than s2k so are they really that much trouble for m coupes and roadsters or other m cars.

Go test drive one and see for yourself, they have a strong top end in addition to amazing suspension and steering. Discussing .2 sec from a MT article doesn't mean squat.......especially when you are comparing it to an ugly ass Z4 :stickoutt
SilverStreak 06-22-2004, 10:19 PM Well, from personal experience, I got my buddy's S2000 to a 13.66 at Atco, and my bone stock Z3 3.0 (lighter than the Z4 3.0 you mention, same gears, same engine, etc) I managed a 13.89 at Atco...
The thing is, the S2000 is tough to launch if you like the car... :evil2: I launched it at 7700 rpms...

Clutches should be treated no differently from other wear items like brake pads :D

Amen, brother.... :buttrock
Red Ribbon Army 06-23-2004, 03:05 AM Thanks for the info i just wasn't sure
FrankW 06-23-2004, 03:42 AM nice kill...i always thought S2K ain't that quick even tho they handle great.
Here is a cool video with the S2000 in it. This is what the S2000 is capable of in the hands of a pro. This video is not a drag race.
WARNING!! Big file!

mattjw916 06-23-2004, 10:16 AM I think I have seen that video before... is it the one where the Skyline blocks the S2k and the M3 for all but the last lap of the race in some vain effort to prove the 350Z is a fast car?
If it is, if you check the lap times at the end, you will see that the M3 and the S2k had faster lap times than the 350Z... with the Boxster waaaay in the rear.
Yup, same one, lap times were like M3, then S2k, then 350Z then Boxster...

even if someone post faster lap time, it ain't doing crap in their 3 lap races. BUT you're not really watching to see the M3 win anyway cuz you're supposely to watch it for fun.
littlelee1 06-23-2004, 03:12 PM You guys are all thread jackers, lol
