View Full Version : longshot i know, ticket help
Madd96///M3 06-22-2004, 01:38 AM So I got pulled over memorial day going to va beach. I was caught on radar doing 77 in a 55. Reckless. This was in my girlfriends car, so i didnt have a radar detector. Anybody have any ideas? Im in the process of getting a lawyer, and Im going to get the speedo on my gf's car checked. Any input would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance guys.

1996 328ti 06-22-2004, 07:23 AM I have been told before your court date go to the court house and look around for the closest lawyer. One who is close to the court knows the good ole boy network the best.
calvin d 06-22-2004, 10:06 AM This was a few years ago but I got a reckless( 95 in a 55 ) and the judge clowned me in court. He made a lot of jokes because I was from South Carolina and gave me a stern speech of the dangers of speed. He took my liscense on the spot, had to return to the courthouse in 10 days to retrieve it, hit me with a $300 fine if I remember correctly and made me promise to stop speeding. I was damn lucky and that was in Norfolk. So it depends on the judge and how he's feeling. Good luck!

What ever happened with your ticket from VA? IIRC it was for driving a whole lot faster then 77? Did you get a radar detector for your truck?
sunir 06-22-2004, 01:51 PM yeah Doby your right...I got screwed royally for that one brotha :help  ...ended up with 6 mo. suspended lisence, Lawyer's bill, court/VA state's bill...2 seperate classroom courses I had to take for certificates on safe speed and driving...I was doing 13x.00 mph in a 55, cop bumped it down to a 99 mph (saving grace, so I wouldn't have to go to jail on the spot), court bumped it to a 90...that's the end of my ever wanting to drive a performance car on the street...I find it difficult to control myself and therefor I think it's better for me if I drive larger, slower vehicles...like my truck :)
I don't have a detector for the truck although I'm thinking of putting the Valentine 1 back in service, but ussually the truck is too slow, towing the racecar, or actually funny thing is it just doesn't get the same treatment...I can speed a bit with this truck and nothing ussually happens, cops love the F150 :D :stickoutt ....
Madd96///M3 06-22-2004, 03:33 PM hmm, maybe i should get a truck. I signed up for the autox on the 27th, so I'll get some legal M3 fun in then at least. Ive been doing literally the limit or at least no more than like 7ish over for way too long.

it doesnt matter if you own a high performance car or a big old truck. You can still speed the same amount it might just take you a little longer to get to speed.
Hell.. I used to go flying around in high school in my 1980 Pontiac Phoenix. That thing was FAR from a performance car, but I could easily get into just as much trouble....
ALSO... I dont know WHY everyone thinks a radar detector will give you immunity either. If youre freakin doing 90+ (or 130+ in Sunir's case), and the cop hits you w/ instant on radar.. there is NO way youre going to be able to slow down in time.
As far as Mad96's situation is concerned, you have already taken the correct steps in finding a lawyer, etc. You might also want to take some classes now before trial.

true, but i was doing 77 and he got me with k band if i remember correctly. And even if you're doing 130, you might get it down 10 or more mph before they clock you, and every mph counts. 3 mph less and i would be dealing with a speeding ticket vs. a reckless ticket.
Bav///Man 06-23-2004, 12:45 PM you guys are talking about radar detectors in va? What is the penalty? Don't they take em?
