I have a short shift kit from Understeer ready to install, and it looks like my cooling kit will be here from bimmerparts this week. If anybody in St. Louis feels like hanging out this weekend on Sat. or Sun. afternoon and working through the install(s) together I'd welcome the company.

BTW, I have a PC random orbital on hand if you want to try it out if you're thinking about buying one.

Let me know.

johno, i am thinking about installing the e46 rsm's with z3 reinforcements. have you done this install before? i have the list of parts that i need from http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_techtip/techtips/rear_shock_mounts.htm .....

think we could knock this out as well? i dont know how long the ssk will take though.

Hey, you didn't just watch. Your help was actually invaluable.

Yes, I have done the e46/Z3 thing and it's a piece of cake. We could knock that out too. It's about a 30 minute job and you will feel better after you are done, really. It's cheap insurance.

You might want to order the parts from your local dealer, or make sure they have them. At least get the Z3 plates, because those are very easy and you don't absolutely have to add the rest right then, if by chance the mounts are not available or something. I'm not saying drive long without new mounts, but the fact is yours could be fine, unless you are hearing something. The plates are the main deal, short-term prevention wise.

I have all the tools needed for that, simple as they are, including the indespensible click-type torque wrench.

I'm not sure if it will be Sat. mid-afternoon or Sunday afternoon. It looks like the weather will be good.

Call me and let me know, oK? 369-5015.

i'll go to the dealer tomorrow and get the parts needed... it should be around 70.00 or so for the e46 mounts, hardware and z3 reinforcement plates. hope they have 'em in stock!

I would love to come out and give a hand, but I have to work on Sat from 3 until 9. I only have to work until 4 on Sunday. I could possibly switch shifts with someone though. I can help with the RSMs because I have done that, but the shifter is a new experience.

Where do you live at? I saw a black E36 M3 making a left off of 40 onto Boone's Crossing and was wondering if that was you.

I live near big bend and 141. We might want to zero in on a time before you switch shifts. I'm leaning toward sat about 2:30, bnut it's likely I'll be working on the car both afternoons.

Brent, you might want to call first. Again the key is the Z3 plates. If everything else is OK, they will do for the short term. Plus, they are easy, with no shock removal required. If you can get only them for now, it's worth doing that until the other mounts come in.

That should do. Call me first in case I'm somehow unable to make it for some unforeseen reason. But the event is firm as far as I see it. The weather is supposed to be great.

BTW, if you are picking up the parts at a dealer, when you are there please get two extra bolts for the shock bolt at the top of the mount. (The big nuts at the top of the shock.) I used mine a bit more than I'm comfortable with. I'll pay you back when you get here. I think it's a couple of bucks. If your parts are getting mailed I'll be fine for now.

Thanks,

You mind if I come out and play. I just got my BMW about three weeks ago and have started some mods. Just trying to give a background to prove i am not just a yahoo that bought a bimmer. I have a digital snap-on torque wrench that beeps when you reach the set torque. You gotta love the little toys. I dont if I will be able to make it until a little later on sat. but am interested in getting to know some of the BMW people in the area. I live in Arnold so I am close to where you are.

Cheers,
Chris
