Cruising home from a camping trip in the Adirondacks (great twisties up there:)) I came across a red R32 that was up for some fun. First I saw him come up the onramp and merge onto the highway, he came up pretty quick so I passed him to see if he'd follow. Right away I heard him get on the fun pedal (great sounding exhaust) and get right behind me, at this point we're cruising at about 85 and I downshift to 4th as we hit some traffic.

Traffic was moving quick (80-85) but there was no room to play, once the last car moved out of our way the R32 got right up on my butt. I nailed it in 4th from about 4500 RPM and he stayed right with me till just over 5k but starting around 5500 is where I began to pull away. I shifted to fifth at 6200 or so and the margin got wider, by the time I hit 120 on the BMW speedo he was several lengths back. I slowed back down to about 80 and he came up beside me, I tried to shout over to see if he wanted to do another run but he wasn't interested, I got a smile and a nod from the driver and a smile from the girl in his pass seat then I took off again. Great way to end a fun weekend :redspot

Thanks man, those cars have an impressive powerband I was actually pretty surprised how much I pulled up top. Not sure if it was the help of my newly added flywheel or the fact that I'm probably close to 800 pounds lighter plus he had a passenger. Oh well, either way it was fun :buttrock

I'm not totally used to hearing R32 being associated with Volkswagens (I initially thought Skyline, lol). Nice kill none the less.

Hugo, yeah, I think the R32's weigh as much if not more than E46's...

Yeah, I think the R32 is around 3300-3400lbs + he had a passenger. My Z hasn't been on the scale but base curb weight is listed as 2690, and I've had her on a moderate diet :)

Imagine the punishment he could have layed down on the R32 if JoeZ had an M52 SCed! :stickoutt

Nice one btw, JoeZ.

Something ain't right about this...
Remember, these are brand new cars...which means,
1) Guy could have been breaking in his motor (or afraid to push too hard)
2) Guy could not have a freakin' clue on how to drive (wouldn't doubt that) :)

Not doubting your story but that's a freaking fast car (r32)...not super fast (like e46 m3 fast) but fast nonetheless.

Things that might help ;)

Downing Atlanta Supercharger
Fogged airbox
Eisenmann exhaust
NGK plugs
Magnecore 8.5mm wires
JB Racing 9lb Flywheel
SPEC Clutch
+ I lost around 100lbs or so before adding my rollbar

He could've backed off, I don't know. I haven't had my car on a dyno but not too long before the flywheel I also pulled away from an S2K on the highway in a very similar fashion. And just two nights before (while still breaking in my clutch) I was able to keep pace w/ my buddy's 95 M3 which has intake, exhaust and euro hfm.....but he's got some mods planned that will put an end to me keeping up :(

i drove my ex-girlfriend's new r32 and it was a blast. the seats... the sound... the feel... awesome car. i love cars but at 19 i don't have the money for thrills like that. i tried to take it easy, but.... chirping into second with any car is a new experience for me... much less chirping second with AWD.

anyway, there was some discussion about r32's earlier. supposedly low 14's or even high high 13's with good drivers. if you killed that, nice job.

I have to say that the sound on that R32 was sick:buttrock. Not sure if it was stock or not, he was riding on some big black wheels w/ polished lip so it may have had an aftermarket exhaust on there too......but if it was stock I probably wouldn't swap it out unless there were larger than normal gains to be had by doing so.
