I am still pretty upset that this happened... Last night I was leaving dinner with this chick... My exit is coming up right after this next light and it turns red. I am in the right lane as it's a right exit, but there are 4 cars in front of me and NO ONE in the left, so I decide to over take them thinking that at least one of them is an old man who will be taking the ramp going 10mph and I don't want to wait... Anyway, I line up at the light knowing I need to overtake this car next to me because the exit is within 200 yards or so on the right. Granted my zhp coupe only has 880 miles I take off not even realizing that the guy next to me is this kid in a fairly clean new z24. I rev to 4k with medium throttle, look to might right and he is right there with me. At this point I look over and he is looking at me. I think to myself "wtf, he won't let me in; I guess he is trying to race". At this point we are maybe 100 yards away and I am still in the left lane, I nearly floor 2nd and let it ride to what I thought was 5.5 or maybe even 6, at which point he was way behind me. I slow down as I move over and take the exit; he is right behind me now. I take the twisty at good 50mph (on a suggested 20) and lose him once again. We are not on the highway, and I am cruising and thinking to myself that I just took my car about 2k over what I should have for the last 300 miles of my break-in period as this punk is doing a wonderful flyby me. The girl that was in my car goes "look I think that’s the guy that was attempting to race you” I just looked over and smiled.

Anyway, that’s a very sad first "race" as I wasn't even trying really. But I am somewhat upset that I revved her up a little more than I would like to this early. :shifty

Don't worry about the break in period.

Driving 'em hard is how you break them in.

Heh, you have no idea how breaking in a motor works. Don't be alarmed, you did no damage, in fact-- you may have helped your motor break in better.

yeah.. like he said.. you're okay... i went up bast the 4k mark maybe once or twice during my break in.. the closer I got to 1200 miles the higher the revs got... i jumped the gun though.. at about 1199 i had to redline... :D

I think you would have felt worse with the outcome had you not over-revved.... ;)

don't they dyno the m5 engines before delivery so i wouldn't worry about your little incident

Well, the owners manual says not to rev over 4.5 for 1.25k miles... But I guess a little here and there won't hurt :devillook

After 500 miles I slowly revved higher and higher under medium throttle, a little more each time out to redline, etc, it'll be fine.

I didn't take it to the drag strip and go all out until 1200 miles, though...

I once had a Z24 beat me back when I had my Z28, he had nitrous, etc....

I QUOTE]

That's kind of what I did. After 1000 miles, I hit about 5.5-6k RPM's and noticed that the engine seemed more responsive immediatley afterwards.

Could be in my head, but my dad noticed it too when he was with me.
