Can anybody please tell me how the digital climate controller is removed from the dash on a 1997 E39 540i,as I want to replace the old fascia that has cracked buttons, with a spangly new one.

Many Thanks in advance.

Sorry can't help with the removal but where did you get the spangly new cover from and at what cost - the buttons on my climate control have also cracked.

BTW I am also in the UK.

Cheers :D

I have a 1998 540i and I removed mine by using a flat tip screwdriver to pry it out. It just pops out, then there are 3 or 4 plugs to unplug behind the unit. It is very easy. I found my new buttons on Ebay. There is a guy selling the replacement unit for $50 or individual buttons for $5 each.

Save your money chaps - you can buy just the button fronts from BMW as a set - mine cost about £15 and with a small screwdriver and a little care they can be "popped" out from the front

You can get the replacement panel at www.bavauto.com just type in 'heater buttons' in the search bar.

I bought a new set of buttons from the dealership for $30, and like others said you just pop them out and pop the new ones in.
