I can get either for virtually the same price. 235/40/17. Which would you choose and why?
Also, how are the Pilots in terms of tread life? I know it's hard to compare wear ratings across brands, but the Pilot's rating is 220 vs. 340 for the Bridgestone... big difference. Am I right in thinking the RE750 will last a bit longer?

Yes. You are rigt in your thinking.
Pilot Sports are EXCELLENT tires and would most ikely provide you with more grip and performance. But the Bridgestone RE750 is no slouch. It will definitely last longer. I'm an RE750 fan.
Oh and also the RE's are much more quiet.
Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for the response. I went ahead and ordered the Potenzas from Tirerack. There's surprisingly little feedback on these tires around BF.c so I'll be sure to update once I've put some miles on them.
If anyone's interested, Discount Tire Direct has a killer deal (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?rd=17&pc=35889&cs=235&c=1&ar=40&sw=false) on Pilot Sports. $153 a piece, SHIPPED. That's about $150 cheaper than Tirerack for a set of 4 tires.

The RE750 is a fairly new tire but we have driven them in testing a few times already. They are quiet and smooth riding with excellent wet traction. Compared to the Pilot the RE750 is going to last longe and be quieter with comparable wet and dry handling. I would say the Pilot is a little quicker in handling.

Well, I now have a pair of RE750s and a pair of Pilot Sports on the car. I've put around 1,000 miles on them both and recently swapped them front to back for comparison. So far it's a toss-up; they are both wonderful tires.
The RE750s are definitely quieter and actually seem to have sharper turn-in than the Pilots. I really like the way the car responds with the RE750s on the front. They have an attractive, slightly aggressive tread pattern and some huge rim guards on the sidewalls which are a little odd-looking, but not ugly. The width of the contact patch is not quite as wide as the Pilots.
The Pilots are extremely sticky and probably the most attractive looking tire I have ever owned. They're nice and fat with flat sidewalls and the most aggressive tread pattern ever. Really sweet tire.
Not sure about treadwear yet... Will update again in a few thousand miles. :redspot
