I'm a freak. Today I setup a webcam so that I can watch the new M3 from work :) I am assuming that this gets worse as ownership goes on???

http://www.neily.net

So, if anyone sees someone with a slimjim wearing a mask in my garage, please call me :)

Wow, that is awesome. How does the light and all the pan stuff work? Is it just a special lens or something which brightens when the light is turned on or something else?

No, The light is actually turning off and on. I'm a Linux freak, so it's done with a little bit of scripting and the magic of X-10 modules. The pan and tilt is the camera itself, it's a Logitech Orbit camera. I just got it, but the picture quality really sucks! I might return it and go back to my old camera (no pan and tilt)...

It's a flourescent light, I'm not worried about you guys costing me alot of bulbs or high energy bills. :)

Yuppers. I'm a total geek. I need to get it working with the hot tub temp controll next so that I can get it toasty during my commute home :)

Actually, scratch that, I need to get a hot-tub first :eyecrazy:

haha - I just had a blast messing with your garage light. I never knew one could gain so much enjoyment out of opening and closing a circuit. :)

X-10 is your friend. Actually, it's everybody's friend if you're running the cameras wirelessly. Anyone that can fin dthe frequency can monitor your camera if they're in range.

I got some remote X-10 stuff free recently. I paid $7 for shipping. Haven't hooked them up yet...

Woot for the rare night-time post from Mr. Briggles.

I see your garage has windows on it. Your neighbors might get a bit scared if they see the lights going on and off middle of the night. :evil2

Quit moving the camera so i can see if it is a helicopter!

Edit- Yup looks like it is. Anyways shows off for the night. I'm closing the lights now.

Yah, it's a R/C Helicopter. I've got two of them, neither one is in flying order. The one you see on the table saw at least runs, but it needs a new clutch.

I've also got a box of R/C cars out of camera range :)

I gave it quite a spin a minute ago after hearing about the 'chopper. Tbird looks pretty spiffy, do you take her out for some sun and meets occasionally?

Yah, Gotta love the tbird. There is nothing like having 390 cubic inches of cast iron underneath your right foot. (Except for the fact that the car weighs almost 4800 pounds :))

I go to the big car show every month on Riverstone Parkway. If you have never been up there, it's pretty awesome. Around 500 cars, and best of all it's free. It would be kewl to get all the BMW people together up there. It's usually older muscle cars, but I have seen alot of supra's and new mustangs up there...

Here is another pic of the T-bird. Maybe I'll bring it to the next mountain drive/meet. You guys will have to chip in for gas tho. At 8mpg, it gets expensive....

I run a dedicated RedHat webserver from home, but haven't done much with webcam/automation stuff. . .That's pretty sweet

I run a dedicated RedHat webserver from home, but haven't done much with webcam/automation stuff. . .That's pretty sweet

It's a Dell 400SC server (cheapie $399 server) that has 512 meg of memory, and 200gig of storage. It's a Celeron 1.2 I belive. It's running Redhat 8.0 (too lazy to upgrade) connnected to Bellsouths X-treme DSL connection. It gets kinda slow if multiple people are pulling streams at 384k upload.

The camera is a Logitech Orbit Webcam connected via USB, and I'm doing the X-10 stuff with X-10 modules and a X-10 firecracker hook up to the seial port on the server.

I've got almost everything in the house automated with X-10. It's kinda nice. The Universal transmitter in the BMW will send X-10 codes, and I can also web in to my server and controll lights with my cell phone.

It all works pretty well. This same server also does all my fileshares, webserver, e-mail, and firewall and wireless connections. Gotta love Linux...

Someone left the garage light on when they left. I took care of that for you.

The camera setup is cool. I like the weatherstation setup even better, being a geography geek and all. Details?

The weather station is a LaCrosse WS-2310 Weather station that is hooked up to my Linux box. It wirelessly connects to a wind, humidity, temp, and rain sensor on the roof. I pull stats from it, and also upload weather info on a 15 minute interval to wunderground.net.

It's kinda nice to know when it's going to rain, and to see it raning at my house. It keeps min/max settings for the year as well.

My neighbors think my house looks like the international space station, but it's still fun. I need to move the temp sensor. It's getting too much sun/radiation from the black rooftop. As you can see in the middle of the day it's 6-8 degrees hotter than the national weather service.
