I'm thinking about cleaning the engine on my baby this weekend, but I don't want to do it the wrong way. Any suggestions?
Can I use the spray stuff at the car wash? Are there any specialty products to get a better job done? Do I need to cover the fuse and relay boxes?
Thanks for your help!

Screw Armour All, that shiznit turns your entire engine in to a dirt magnet! :nono
Grab a wash brush at the auto parts store, squirt some car wash soap in a bucket, spray the engine with some water, wipe down every thing under hood with the soapy water using the brush, rinse it down and dry everything with an old chamois. That's what I do every time I wash my car and I always get complements about how clean my engine is

Bimmer95 is correct. Be sure to follow the last steps that say to rinse the Armor All of and blow dry the motor. Then it won't attract dirt. Armor All is a great no-work cleaner .

A rag and a bucket of warm soapy water.

When I first bought my bimmer the engine bay was despicable. I spent most of the first night I had her with a couple rags and a bottle of CRC lubricant. (Basically their version of WD-40, but much better.) I use it to cut grease, (fight fire with fire) and spray it on plastics and rubbers. Supposedly it protects plastics and rubber, and it gives them a nice shine. I also soak my rubber door, hood and trunk seals in it to prevent sticking in the winter. They also look good when oiled and are less prone to cracking. HTH,
Tom
