Still thinking about picking up an '84 325 from a friend for cheap and though the car runs I'm wondering about the best place to start in getting it back up to par as a good reliable daily driver/weekend Home Depot getter. Not sure if it would see a track for some time...but you never know.
The obvious parts to make it safe are a no brainer (i.e. brakes), but other than that what would you do....suspension/engine/electrical first?
Plus I thought that we needed a new thread so this is my contribution.

Engine, suspension & electrical in that order, unless you get really bothered by pesky elecrical gremlins.

Hmm 84? If its an E30 there are quite a few trouble spots on these cars.
Timing belt every 60k. Relays (just replace all of them) Dirty ICV.. Cap/ Rotor/ wires. The cap will have some Really nasty carbon buildup. All of the rubber parts of the supsension/ wheel bearings, etc...

Yeah, this car definately needs some love, but for $400-ish dollars I'd hate to pass it up. I would buy it from the original owner, never been wrecked (body is straight, no rust, etc), interior is in very good condition, I'm not pressed to get anything done right away (work on it as I see fit/desire) and Bobby at Strictly German has TONS of parts for this car (only 15 minutes from my house).
Almost seems too good to pass up though I know it would require alot of work over the long haul. Hell, my friend just restored his '63 or '66 Jag E-type that he's had for 30 years! Maybe the E30 will be worth something someday.

I would like to get an E30 as a secondary car. I am pretty familiar with the mechanics of it.... But sticking in an M50 would fun too.. :devillook
